Titans Sticking With Collins

Oct 27, 2014 9:49 PM

Despite an 0-3 start, Titans coach Jeff Fisher isn't looking to next season and the future starting quarterback of the franchise yet. Fisher told reporters Monday that he's sticking with Kerry Collins as his starting quarterback against the Cowboys on Sunday, despite reports that Tennessee was soon ready to hand the reins to No. 3 overall pick Vince Young.

Jul 31, 2014 1:54 AM

The Vince Young era in Tennessee might begin as soon as next week. A Titans front office source told ESPN's Chris Mortensen that Young could make his debut as Tennessee's starting quarterback next week against the Cowboys if starter Kerry Collins was unable to get on track Sunday against the Dolphins. Collins was 19-of-33 passing for 269 yards and one touchdown with two interceptions as the Titans lost 13-10.

Fisher: Volek Lied To Him

Oct 23, 2014 4:51 AM

Coach Jeff Fisher lashed out at critics of the Titans' dealings with Billy Volek, saying Wednesday that Volek lied to him and never took advantage of the opportunity to be the starter. The Titans finally traded Volek on Tuesday to the Chargers for a sixth-round draft pick that could become a fifth-rounder depending on playing time. Fisher said Volek asked to be traded the day the Titans signed Kerry Collins late last month.

Chargers Trade For Volek

Oct 23, 2014 4:51 AM

The San Diego Chargers acquired veteran quarterback Billy Volek in a trade from the Tennessee Titans in exchange for a 2007 sixth-round draft choice. The draft choice could become a fifth-round choice if Volek participates in 50% of the team?s total offensive plays in ?06. ?We?re excited to add Billy Volek to strengthen our quarterback position,? said General Manager A.J. Smith. ?We?re always exploring ways to upgrade the talent on the Chargers. Billy brings talent and experience, and adds depth at that very critical position.? Volek, currently in his seventh NFL season, has started 10 games over the past three seasons. In those 10 starts, the 30-year old has thrown for 2,789 yards, the most passing yards by any quarterback in his first 10 starts dating back to 1970. In 24 regular-season games played, Volek has completed 312 of 517 pass attempts (.603) for 3,505 yards, 26 touchdowns, 13 interceptions and a quarterback rating of 86.9. He has not seen regular-season action thus far in ?06.

Fisher Sticking With QB Collins

Oct 19, 2014 11:25 PM

The Vince Young era hasn't arrived yet for the Titans. If Kerry Collins keeps posting a 1.3 passer rating, it won't be far off. Jeff Fisher insisted again Monday he is sticking with Collins as his starter even after the veteran's anemic performance in a 40-7 loss at San Diego that was the franchise's worst loss since December 1989. "Kerry was brought here because of his experience," Fisher said. "We're sticking with Kerry and continuing to develop Vince."

Volek: "Time For Me To Move On"

Nov 1, 2014 4:18 PM

Billy Volek returned to Nashville on Sunday night, but said it's "time for me to move on." The Chargers, Chiefs and Raiders are interested in trading for Volek, who requested to be released or traded after the Titans signed Kerry Collins. Volek is represented by agent Drew Rosenhaus. "I haven't talked to Drew yet," Volek said Sunday afternoon. "We kind of gave this thing a rest through the week. Now I just have to wait and see. I have to do what is best for my career. "Tennessee fans have been great for me, and now it is time for me to move on."

Volek Could End Up In San Diego

Oct 23, 2014 4:55 AM

When Titans No. 3 quarterback Billy Volek travels to San Diego this weekend, he may be sticking around a while. Volek said the Chargers are one of the teams who contacted the Titans after he asked to be traded last month. Volek said he thinks there's a chance something could happen next week, after the Titans and Chargers play on Sunday. "I know that they have a lot of interest. I know that they have contacted Floyd Reese and they contacted my agent," Volek said. "There is an opportunity for me there and it is a bridge I'll cross when it presents itself."

Titans Keeping Quiet About Starting QB

Sep 24, 2014 12:05 AM

Billy Volek remained on the Tennessee roster on Monday and promised he won't disrupt the locker room. Kerry Collins is busy learning the offense. Vince Young is happy the regular season has arrived. However, the team is either bluffing to raise Volek's trade value by keeping him around, or they want to protect themselves at quarterback. So, they don't care how he feels in being demoted from the starter to the No. 3 guy. Coach Jeff Fisher wouldn't say Monday who will start Sunday in the season opener against the New York Jets. The Titans will continue evaluating Collins, the 11-year veteran signed exactly a week ago, and preparing Young. A decision probably won't be announced until kickoff.
