Despite Legal Issues, Bucs Will Welcome Talib

Jul 22, 2014 9:02 AM

Buccaneers cornerback Aqib Talib is prepared to attend training camp with the team after the end of the NFL lockout and is expected to remain with the team for the immediate future. Tampa Bay has closely monitored Talib's legal issues -- police in Garland, Texas, charged him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, stemming from a March 21 domestic incident -- but haven't been unable to directly deal with him because of the lockout's non-contact rules. Soon after Talib's arrest, reports emerged that the Buccaneers would release him. According to sources, team hasn't made a decision on the cornerback's future and hasn't set a timetable to do so. There's every expectation that he'll be with the team whenever the 2011 league year begins.

Ronde Hasn't Spoken To Bucs About Signing Tiki

Sep 4, 2014 12:39 PM

Tiki Barber, who is attempting a return to the NFL, says the Buccaneers, the employer of his twin brother and cornerback Ronde, are one of the teams interested in his services. "It was an entertaining thought four or five years ago," Ronde said. "I don't know how realistic it is now. I've not had a chance to talk to (GM) Mark (Dominik) or Raheem about it. Maybe the situation would be a little different under different circumstances. But I know he wants to go somewhere where feels like he's wanted." Tiki said last week that Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay were on the short list of teams interested. "He's prepared. He looks like did preretirement," Ronde said of Tiki. "He really dedicated himself and has been in there working out for four months. The only thing he doesn't have is the on-field endurance. "He's very adept at what he used to do. I don't see him having a problem. The one thing he can't fail at is football. He had somewhat mastered it when he retired."

Attorney: Talib Should Be Permitted To Play

Jul 30, 2014 2:48 AM

Buccaneers cornerback Aqib Talib should be permitted to play the 2011 season without interruption until his case is settled next March, his attorney said. Talib is scheduled to stand trial on charges of assault with a deadly weapon stemming from his role in a shooting March 21 in Garland, Texas. "Absolutely -- Aqib has the presumption of innocence," his attorney said. "Everyone should consider him innocent at this point I would hope they let him play this season and let him have his day in court. We are very confident and strongly believe he will prevail in court."
