Cowboys-Steelers Hall Of Fame Game Cancelled

Jun 26, 2020 8:59 AM

The Dallas Cowboys-Pittsburgh Steelers game at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, on Aug. 6 is being canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic, according to league sources.

The Hall of Fame's Aug. 8 enshrinement ceremony is being postponed.

This marks the first time the NFL has had to cancel an event on its calendar because of the pandemic. The league had been able to conduct free agency, albeit in a different way, as well as a virtual NFL draft.

The Cowboys and Steelers are now expected to play in the 2021 Hall of Fame Game.

Ben Roethlisberger Opens Up On Battle With Addiction

Jun 23, 2020 9:27 PM

Ben Roethlisberger detailed his issues with addiction during a virtual conference for Christian men.

"It's not always easy," Roethlisberger said, talking to Tunch Ilkin, a former Steelers player and one of the event's hosts. "People don't realize all the time that us athletes, we're human. We sin like everybody else. I am no different. We make mistakes. We get addicted to things. We sin. We're human. I think sometimes we get put on this pedestal where we can't make mistakes. I've fallen as short as anybody. I've been addicted to alcohol. I've been addicted to pornography, which makes me then not the best husband, not the best father, not the best Christian I can be.

"But you have to dedicate yourself and understand that you can get out of it because of the grace of God and him saying, 'Listen, you're good enough for me the way you are. You don't have to be perfect.'"

According to the group's mission, the 90-minute conference, held virtually on Father's Day this year, "encourages and teaches men to be godly leaders for their families, and raises awareness of the devastating impact of fatherlessness among youth today."

Roethlisberger was twice accused of sexual assault, and he was suspended for part of the 2010 season for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy. Roethlisberger has been married since 2011.

If Played, Fans Aren't Likely For Steelers-Cowboys HOF Game

Jun 17, 2020 9:33 AM

If this year's Hall of Fame Game is played, it'll likely be without fans in the stadium.

The game is scheduled for Aug. 6 in Canton, Ohio, between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys.

"As much as I hate to say this, because we've all been looking forward to that and I know how much it means to the Canton area and the Stark County area and, really, across the country, it's a great, great event that we've been looking forward to, [but] having a crowd that size is highly unlikely," Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said. "Certainly, it could not occur today. It would be very dangerous to do it today.

"Again, we have to see where we are at that point, but that's a large crowd, a lot of people together. These are the things that we've talked about all the way through this as we open Ohio up and we get back to work and we get back to doing the things that we like, probably the last things that are going to be able to be open are the big crowds, particularly when you have big crowds that are close together. So we have to continue to look at it and make decisions as we move forward, but if the question was, 'could that even occur today?' the answer would be, 'no.'"

Josh Harris, David Blitzer Purchase Minority Stake In Steelers

Jun 15, 2020 2:48 PM

Josh Harris and David Blitzer purchased a stake of less than five percent in the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier in 2020.

No details on the price were available, but they may have paid as much as $140 million based on the $2.8 billion value Forbes estimated for the Steelers last September.

Harris and Blitzer also own the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils.

The Steelers are controlled by the sons of team founder Art Rooney. Other investors include hedge fund manager Rob Citrone, former Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner and John Stallworth, who played for the team in the 1970s and 80s.
