Steelers Don't Rule Out Drafting Quarterback

Apr 22, 2020 9:16 AM

The Pittsburgh Steelers have five quarterbacks on the roster, but haven't ruled out adding more.

"If any pick makes sense at any time, then of course we'll make those picks," Kevin Colbert said.

Ben Roethlisberger is reportedly healthy as he recovers from elbow surgery.

Pittsburgh spent a third-round pick on Mason Rudolph in 2018. They also have Devlin Hodges, former first-rounder Paxton Lynch, and J.T. Barrett at the moment.

"You feel good about No. 7, Ben, coming back," Colbert said. "We know what we have in Mason. And, you know, we’ll see where we go. But we will be prepared for [a potential pick at] any position regardless of who we have on or current team.

"We evaluate the whole board by position, to properly [rank] it," Colbert said. "So, we have a good feel for these guys. And there are several players in the group [of draft-eligible quarterbacks] who are going to be future starters, possible Pro Bowlers, and there’s some nice backups."

Kevin Colbert Proposes Three More Rounds For 2020 NFL Draft

Apr 8, 2020 9:29 AM

Kevin Colbert believes NFL teams should be given additional draft picks this year because of the "inherent challenges posed by the coronavirus restrictions."

The long-time Pittsburgh Steelers general manager suggested the idea because he feels that teams will be more prone to making mistakes without the additional time to evaluate this year's prospects.

The current draft has seven rounds.

Ben Roethlisberger 'Was Going To Be Ready To Go For OTAs'

Apr 7, 2020 8:51 AM

Ben Roethlisberger is coming off elbow surgery and says he would have been ready to go for the Pittsburgh Steelers in OTAs.

The quarterback had his season ended after just two games in 2019 because of the injury.

"I was going to be ready to go for OTAs and the minicamps," Roethlisberger. "That was going to be the plan. Now I don't know how much I was going to do, I don't know if I was going to be doing team stuff or stuff like that, but I would have been definitely going to be out there ready to go."

The Steelers would have been scheduled to begin the offseason workout program on April 20.
