Raiders' Porter Plays For First Time This Year
Jerry Porter's 2006 stats line: one catch, 19 yards.
The Raiders receiver played for the first time all season Sunday, only four days after Oakland cut his four-game suspension in half.
Porter, inactive for the first four games of the year before his suspension, was in uniform for the Raider's 20-13 victory over the Steelers.
Coliseum Working On 'Master Lease' With USC
With the news that the NFL is cooling on the high price of building a stadium for a professional team in the Los Angeles area, USC and the Coliseum are working together to form a partnership that will continue into the future.
"We are actively discussing with the Coliseum Commission the possibility of a lease," USC Senior Vice President Todd Dickey said Wednesday. "The details we have yet to work out."
Porter Reinstated To Raiders After Serving Two-Game Suspension
Jerry Porter was reinstated by the Raiders on Wednesday after the NFL and the players association agreed to cut his four-game suspension in half.
Porter was suspended Oct. 15 for insubordination a day after being kicked out of practice by coach Art Shell. The NFL Players Association appealed the suspension the following week, calling it "excessive."
New L.A. Stadium Could Cost $1 Billion
Team owners were told at their annual fall meetings that a new stadium in Los Angeles could cost more than $1 billion.
That's more than double the cost estimates of a few years ago, and $200 million more than last spring's estimate.
"There's a point where it doesn't work. And there's a point where you can't speculate," Jerry Jones said. "You're just sticking your neck out too far. ...I think we've got challenges right now with our costs."
FBI Questions Individual Who Posted Threat Warning
The FBI said on Thursday that they questioned an unidentified Milwaukee individual over the posting of a terrorism threat against National Football League stadiums.
``The U.S. government still believes this threat is non- credible,'' Richard Ruminski, special agent in charge of the FBI's office in Milwaukee, said in a statement.
The U.S. Homeland Security Department yesterday, citing an ``abundance of caution,'' warned the NFL about the threat, which claimed an al-Qaeda operative had smuggled deadly radioactive materials into the U.S. from Mexico.
At Least One Team Contacts Raiders On Moss
Randy Moss didn't request a trade out of Oakland, but he implied that he was very willing to leave.
According to a source with the club, at least one team contacted the Raiders about the possibility of a trade, but the talks didn't reportedly become serious.
Porter's Agent Unable To Get Him Out Of Oakland At Deadline
Jerry Porter's agent tried to work a deal to get him out of Oakland, but was unable to find a willing team. The Raiders wanted Porter to return $4 million in signing bonuses and for another team to offer a comparable player.
Porter was suspended by Art Shell on Saturday for four weeks.
Porter Suspended Four Games
The Oakland Raiders suspended disgruntled wide receiver Jerry Porter for four games without pay Saturday for conduct detrimental to the team.
Porter, Oakland's leading receiver a year ago, was inactive for the first four games of the season after clashing with new coach Art Shell and making public a trade demand at the start of training camp.
"It's crazy," Porter said of his situation earlier this week. "I pretty much stay quiet and do what I'm asked. What am I supposed to do? I'm playing the cards the way they're dealt to me."
Arizona Radio Station Suggests Trade For Porter
An Arizona radio station suggested this week that the Cardinals might look to swap high-priced left tackle Leonard Davis for Jerry Porter, now that wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald could miss four weeks with a hamstring injury.
Davis' base salary is $9.2 million this season and he's in the final year of his contract. Any team that trades for him at this stage would have to reduce that base salary with a long-term extension. And Davis' agent, Ryan Tollner, told the Arizona Republic he hasn't even been contacted about a restructured contract.
Moss Reiterates Desire To Be Dealt
"It might be good for me to go elsewhere," Randy Moss said on Monday.
Moss Open To A Trade
"I've been traded once (from Minnesota to Oakland), two won't hurt," said Randy Moss this week.
