Porter Prepared To Be Blackballed By Shell

Jun 7, 2014 2:00 PM

Raiders receiver Jerry Porter's desire to be traded -- again -- and his contentious relationship with new coach Art Shell likely will result in a punitive benching or game-day deactivation, while the team turns to the untapped potential of players such as Johnnie Morant, Ronald Curry and Carlos Francis. Porter said he's prepared if Raiders coaches blackball him. "If that's how they want to spend their money,'' Porter said, "have at it.''

Eagles Intersted In Porter?

Nov 26, 2014 4:09 PM

There is no indication thus far that the Raiders have called the Eagles any time in the last few days about Joey Porter. (It has been reported that Porter was shopped before the draft. Whether the Eagles were involved at that point is possible, but unknown. But if they did get a call, the fact that they took a run at Javon Walker from Green Bay and not Porter should tell you something about what they're thinking.) There is no real idea what the Raiders would want in return if they did call.

Jerry Porter Requests Trade From Raiders

Oct 31, 2014 11:37 AM

Jerry Porter reportedly is having some troubles with new Raiders coach Art Shell. The wide receiver told The San Francisco Chronicle that he has asked the team to trade him. "Yes. Absolutely. I've told them that," Porter told the newspaper. The 2000 second round pick has caught 239 passes in his six NFL seasons for 3,215 yards and has scored 24 touchdowns. Porter told the newspaper that his agent told him that the Raiders have asked for two No. 1 picks in return for him in any deal. The trade request baffles Porter. "Why ... would you ask for a No. 1 for me, or ask for two No. 1s for me, when I wasn't even a No. 1?," he told the newspaper.

Raiders' Gallery Hurts Quad Muscle

Nov 26, 2014 3:52 PM

Robert Gallery's move back to left tackle was temporarily put on hold Monday when the Raiders placed the third-year offensive lineman on the physically unable to perform list. Gallery, the No. 2 overall pick in 2004, injured a quad muscle working out last week. Though the injury is not thought to be serious, team trainers and coach Art Shell opted to take a cautious approach. "He was working out last weekend and he was trying to get that last oomph in and he strained his quad, so we're going to shut him down a little bit," Shell said.

After helping Texas win a national championship alongside Vince Young, Huff is expected to earn a starting spot alongside Stuart Schweigert at safety for Oakland. T The Raiders had a chance to select local quarterback Matt Leinart of Southern California in the first round, but instead took Huff to help a secondary which recorded a league-low five interceptions last season.

Shell Shakes Things Up, Names Two Rookies As Starters

Feb 7, 2014 10:00 AM

Oakland Raiders head coach Art Shell will reward two rookies for their hard work. Shell has named second-round pick outside linebacker Thomas Howard and third-round selection right guard Paul McQuistan as starters for the upcoming season. In the meantime, Raiders first-round pick Michael Huff is fighting for a starting spot at safety. "I want the best football players out there," Shell said. "In this league you can play with young guys if the guy has talent. They're going to make some mistakes, but you can live with them if they make them aggressively."
