The New York Giants have agreed to hire Brian Daboll as head coach.

Daboll replaces Joe Judge, who went 10-23 and was fired after two seasons. 

Daboll was one of five finalists for the job along with former Miami Dolphinshead coach Brian Flores, Bills assistant head coach/defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and Giants defensive coordinator Patrick Graham. Quinn informed teams on Thursday he would be returning to Dallas.

Daboll is credited with helping the development of Josh Allen into one of the NFL's best quarterbacks.

John Mara has ruled out the possibility of the New York Giants pursuing a trade for Deshaun Watson.

“We’re not trading for Deshaun Watson,” Mara said in response to an inquiry regarding Watson.

“There are so many reasons why. Cap wise, we couldn’t afford him. But more importantly, with the allegations that are out there, that’s just not the right fit for us.”

Mara also said that the Giants have not given up on the possibility of Daniel Jones becoming a viable starting quarterback for the team.

“We’ve done everything possible to screw this kid up since he’s been here," said Mara. "We certainly have not given up on Daniel Jones.”

Adam Peters and Ryan Poles were the other two finalists for the job.

Schoen was hired by the Buffalo Bills as assistant general manager in 2017. Schoen joined the Bills after nearly a decade with the Miami Dolphins. 

With Schoen leading the search for a new head coach, Brian Flores, Dan Quinn and Brian Daboll are expected to be strong candidates.

Judge is the third consecutive Giants coach to be fired after two seasons or less, following Ben McAdoo (13-15) and Pat Shurmur (9-23).

Judge operated Monday as if he would remain with the Giants, holding a team meeting before speaking with ownership in the afternoon.

"[Co-owner] Steve [Tisch] and I both believe it is in the best interest of our franchise to move in another direction," Giants co-owner John Mara said in a statement. "We met with Joe yesterday afternoon to discuss the state of the team. I met again with Joe this afternoon, and it was during that conversation I informed Joe of our decision. We appreciate Joe's efforts on behalf of the organization.

"I said before the season started that I wanted to feel good about the direction we were headed when we played our last game of the season. Unfortunately, I cannot make that statement, which is why we have made this decision.

"We will hire a general manager and that person will lead the effort to hire a new head coach."

It isn't a given that Joe Judge will remain the head coach of the New York Giants.

Judge met with ownership on Monday afternoon and came away with no clarity regarding his future, according to a report.

The Giants are seeking a replacement to Dave Gettleman, who retired as general manager on Monday.

Dave Gettleman has announced his retirement after four seasons with the New York Giants.

John Mara and Steve Tisch said a search for a new general manager will begin immediately.

"This will be a comprehensive search for our next general manager," Mara said in a statement. "We are looking for a person who demonstrates exceptional leadership and communication abilities, somebody who will oversee all aspects of our football operations, including player personnel, college scouting and coaching."

The Giants are requesting an interview with the Buffalo Bills assistant general manager Joe Schoen.

The Giants didn't address the status of Joe Judge when announcing Gettleman's departure.
