Ranking The NFL's Oldest, Youngest Starters By Team

Oct 31, 2014 2:22 PM

The Atlanta Falcons, San Diego Chargers and Baltimore Ravens have the three oldest collections of starters in the NFL.

The Kansas City Chiefs, Seattle Seahawks and Cincinnati Bengals are the youngest.

Former Vikings head coach Bud Grant had a popular saying that "for every young guy you start, you lose a game."

Pete Carroll worked for Grant early in his coaching career, but has had one of the youngest teams in the NFL during his tenure with the Seahawks.

"I was of that mindset in classic fashion until I had to be in charge of calling all the shots and then it just flipped in me that we don't know where we're going unless we find these guys out," Carroll said. "One of the really exciting things about playing guys early is ... by the middle and to the end of the season, you’ve developed players that fit into your rotations now that add to your depth and also add to the opportunity to not over-play your older guys."

Below is a full list with the rank in offense/defense in parenthesis.

1. Atlanta Falcons (2/5)
2. San Diego Chargers (7/3)
3. Baltimore Ravens (1/15)

Marcus Thomas Lobbying To Get Madden Picture Changed

Oct 31, 2014 6:59 AM

Marcus Thomas, a defensive tackle with the Giants, is not thrilled with how he is portrayed in Madden 2013.

Heading into his sixth season in the NFL, Thomas noticed that in this year's edition of the video game the creators mixed his picture up with that of the Marcus Thomas who played running back for three games with the Lions in 2008.

EA Sports has promised that the error will be corrected in an upcoming update.

Injuries Have Giants Concerned About Depth

Jun 13, 2014 3:24 PM

The Giants have seen a number of players suffer injuries this preseason, leading Tom Coughlin to worry about the team's depth.

Prince Amukamara suffered a high-ankle sprain, while Terrell Thomas reaggravated his surgically repaired right ACL and has been out indefinitely.

"We started with a lot of numbers and those numbers have dwindled now," Coughlin said of New York's secondary. "We are certainly concerned. Concerned is a very modest word."

Amukamara Suffers High Ankle Sprain

May 26, 2014 5:21 PM

Prince Amukamara suffered a high ankle sprain in the first quarter of a preseason game against the Bears on Friday night and may be out several weeks.

"It is not a fracture," coach Tom Coughlin said. "They were saying high ankle. Dr. (Russ) Warren thought it was mild. I don't like that term 'high ankle.' If it a mild sprain, perhaps, it is not going to take as much time getting back."

Amukamara injured himself on an end-around run by Devin Hester with under five minutes left in the first quarter.

Bears, Packers, Steelers, Raiders Rated As Having Best Uniforms

Nov 30, 2014 8:24 AM

The Bears have the best uniforms in the NFL, according to Paul Lukas of Uni Watch.

"True, the helmet design is starting to look a tad dated," writes Lukas. "But the striped sleeves, striped socks (now a rarity in the NFL, alas), unique number font, and even the perma-memorial to Papa Bear all score major points, and the Bears may be the only team in the league who look as sharp on the road as they do at home. The cream of the NFL crop."

The Packers, Steelers, Raiders and Eagles round out the top-five.

"Just suit up, baby," writes Lukas about the Raiders. "Silver and black look just as good today as they did when Al Davis came up with them. There's probably some marketer out there who wants the team to dress up like the fans in the Black Hole (and hey, that actually could be fun as a one-off thing), but you don't mess with something this elemental. Also: The Raiders are among the few NFL teams that wisely have declined to adopt the new Nike collar format."

Report: Strahan Will Fill Regis Philbin's Seat

Oct 31, 2014 8:29 AM

Michael Strahan will be named the permanent co-host of Live!, replacing Regis Philbin alongside Kelly Ripa.

Philbin left the popular morning show in 2011. Ripa has worked with a revolving cast of co-hosts this year. Strahan, Seth Meyers and Josh Groban were considered the top choices to land the gig permanently.

Strahan is still expected to appear on FOX’s Sunday NFL pregame show this season.

Coughlin Upset After Tub Prank Goes Viral

Sep 30, 2014 10:01 PM

Tom Coughlin was not happy after a video of cornerback Prince Amukamara being thrown into a cold tub by Jason-Pierre Paul went viral.

The video was shot by punter Steve Weatherford.

"I'm going to look into it. I'm going to talk to the parties involved," Coughlin said. "As I'm understanding it, there were some parts of it that were inappropriate. In no way is anything that occurs within this family or group, should that be a part of any kind of social media.

"So I'm going to address that strongly. I've spent a little time on that this preseason. So I'll look into it further."
