Giants DT Bernard Recommends Vick Get Rid Of Ball Quicker

Nov 28, 2014 5:53 AM

Michael Vick has been sacked nine times and has been hit 28 times overall through the first three weeks of 2012.

"I know a lot of people want to blame it on the offensive line, but I think usually when stuff like that happens, it works both ways," Giants defensive tackle Rocky Bernard said. "Blocking also maybe he's holding the ball a little too long, trying to make the big play every time instead of taking what the defense gives you."

The Giants pass rush has been one of the best in the NFL for many seasons, 2012 included.

"Well, he's going to have to change," Bernard said of Vick. "He's not inhuman. You can't take that many hits and survive in this league so they're going to have to change something. I don’t know what."

Coughlin Wants NFL To Move Cameras Back

May 29, 2014 7:33 AM

Antrel Rolle hurt his knee in Week 3 when trying to avoid a cameraman in the corner of the end zone but banged his knee on a camera while trying to hurdle him.

Tom Coughlin said he crossed paths with Ray Anderson, NFL's vice president for game operations, in Carolina after the Rolle injury.

"I kind of looked at Ray Anderson, and I said, 'We're so concerned about player safety, can't we do something about this?'" Coughlin said. "Can't we get people away from the sideline enough for a guy going as fast as he was going, flying through the air, that he doesn't put his knee into a camera?

"I think that's something that we can do something about," Coughlin continued. "We ought to be able to clear the playing field so a guy can play. ... I don't think he's going to miss any time. He's not like that anyway. He'll play with whatever, but it didn't have to happen."

Brown turned down offers from the Cardinals, Packers and Saints.

“It really helped me understand concepts, defenses and stuff like that,” Brown said of what he referred to as his “redshirt year.”

Brown has 184 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 33 carries to go with five receptions for 36 yards.

Schiano Developed Dubious Reputation In NFL Before Incident

Jul 14, 2014 4:41 PM

Greg Schiano announced his arrival as an NFL coach by calling for his defensive line to push through toward Eli Manning while the Giants were in victory formation.

Tom Coughlin and Schiano engaged in an argument over the play following the game.

Schiano is "a perceived bully who developed a dubious reputation in NFL circles during his 11 years as Rutgers' domineering head coach," writes Michael Silver.

"Schiano was almost universally viewed as unaccommodating, intimidating and downright disrespectful by NFL representatives who paid visits to Rutgers from 2001-11," continues Silver.

As one veteran NFL coach said of Schiano earlier this week, "It's his way or [expletive] you. He needs to back up a little bit, or he's going to have a very hard time in this league over the long haul."

Many NFL general managers, scouts and coaches familiar with Schiano expressed a resentment toward the new head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Schiano may not be popular with NFL personnel in general, but he has a close relationship with Bill Belichick. Schiano coached Belichick's son Steven at Rutgers and is believed to have recommended Schiano to the Glazer family.

Many in the NFL were happy that Coughlin confronted Schiano.

"He pissed off The Godfather," said one front-office executive for an NFC team. "Here's Tom Coughlin, one of the most respected men in this league, telling him he's out of line, wondering why his [$97-million] quarterback was put in harm's way. You have to understand that the NFL really is a brotherhood – these guys are in the same union, and some of them socialize together, and some end up as teammates down the road.

"He's been perceived as a bully in the NCAA, and he's still trying to bully. This league has little patience with that. It won't fly. And even before this, the NFL's scrutinizing eyes were already upon him."

Giants See Delayed Return From 2009 Draft Class

Jul 6, 2014 4:49 AM

The New York Giants' 2009 draft class was outstanding in their 36-7 victory over the Panthers on Thursday.

Andre Brown and Ramses Barden started their first NFL games, replacing Ahmad Bradshaw and Hakeem Nicks respectively.

Brown had 113 yards and two touchdowns, while Barden caught nine balls for 138 yards.

"One thing that Ernie Accorsi taught me, if I don't remember anything else, [is] you got to give guys a chance to fail," Reese said. "And if they fail, say 'Look, we made a mistake, let's move on.'"

Brown has been waived eight times in his career.

"Andre Brown had an injury when he was a rookie and bounced around a bit and circled back to us," Reese said. "We always liked him. We thought he was Derrick Ward-like but faster."
