Umenyiora Protests Perception That He's A 'Greedy Pig'

Sep 17, 2014 3:08 PM

Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora says he isn't happy that the team offered him only "half" the guaranteed money it recently gave to fellow defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka. "They offered an extension -- guaranteeing half of what they just gave 'Kiwi' guaranteed," Umenyiora wrote to The Star-Ledger on Sunday. "And I'm a greedy pig for turning down half of what they just gave 'Kiwi.' Lol." Kiwanuka received a three-year extension from the Giants last week that included $10.95 million in guaranteed money.

Reese: Robinson Is JPP Of Tight Ends

Oct 31, 2014 5:51 PM

The Giants drafted Cincinnati tight end Adrien Robinson with the final pick of the fourth round on Saturday afternoon. He was the 127th overall selection. "A guy we haven't talked about -- our first fourth-round pick is Adrien Robinson, the tight end from Cincinnati," general manager Jerry Reese said in summation of the team's draft. "We really think this guy has a huge up-side. He is a big, big man; long arms. He didn't catch a lot of balls for them. But he is kind of a late bloomer who has really come on. And we think this guy is kind of a JPP of tight ends. We like these kind of people. We will get Mike Pope involved with this guy. We brought him in for one of the visits. We are excited about him. We think he can really come on and develop and be a terrific football player for us. So it is very exciting for us to get him."

Giants Say They've Made Offers To Umenyiora

Jun 17, 2014 9:59 PM

Giants general manager Jerry Reese said the team has offered Osi Umenyiora an extension for two straight years in hopes of keeping the defensive end. "Our first choice with respect to Osi is that he will play for the Giants and retire a Giant," Reese said. "That is what we would like to happen. Osi has been offered an extension two years in a row now, so we would still like to make it work. Hopefully, it will work out." Umenyiora said earlier this week that he did not think the Giants would be able to give him the type of extension he is seeking with several young players due for raises in the future.

Giants Add Shaun Rogers To Defensive Line

Jun 17, 2014 10:04 PM

The Giants signed former Pro Bowl defensive tackle Shaun Rogers just hours before the first round of the NFL Draft. Rogers, 33, played last season with the Saints and had 22 tackles in 16 games. "Hopefully, I can bring some of my experience over the past few years and just fit in and play a part," Rogers said. "I still most definitely feel that I can bring something to the table. I might not be exactly like I was in '06, but I still have some tricks and I still have some good push in me."

Umenyiora Doesn't Expect Extension From Giants

Sep 9, 2014 6:09 PM

Osi Umenyiora does not believe the Giants will be able to give him the contract extension he has long desired. "Would I want to (stay)? I think it would be ideal," Umenyiora said. "I think I would if things could be worked out. But is that going to happen? I really don't think so." Umenyiora thinks New York might be better off trading him for something in return during this week's NFL Draft. The defensive end does not want to return without a raise and play in the final year of his deal, which is worth just under $4 million this season. "Next year, if I leave (after the contract is up), they won't get anything," Umenyiora said of the Giants. "Maybe they will get a compensatory pick. But that's it. So if they are going to do it, now would be the best time to (make a trade)."

Eli Calls Himself '3rd-Most Talked About' QB In New York

Oct 2, 2014 11:58 AM

The Jets have garnered a majority of headlines this offseason, having acquired Tim Tebow, despite the fact that the Giants are the reigning Super Bowl champs. When Manning recently appeared at the University of Mississippi, he joked about all the attention Mark Sanchez and Tebow have received. "(The) New York Giants just won a championship," Manning said, "yet I'm still the third-most talked about quarterback in my own city."

Matthews Will Never Get Over Loss To Giants

Oct 31, 2014 6:31 AM

More than three months after Green Bay's playoff loss to New York, Packers linebacker Clay Matthews is still hurting. Matthews said Friday on NBC Sports Talk that he didn't watch the Giants win the Super Bowl. "I didn't catch the Super Bowl at all, simply because I was on a plane at that time," Matthews said. "I don't know if you ever really get over it. I still remember losses from my childhood that you never get over. Fortunately we get to play the Giants again this year and hopefully have a little redemption. But more power to them. They obviously came on at the end of the season. They were a six seed, had to go through everyone's backyard and win and that's exactly what they did - similar to what we did two years ago. So we're just looking forward to getting back out there and hopefully show everyone what we're capable of and that's winning another Super Bowl."

Reese: Umenyiora, Cruz Extension On My Plate

Jul 27, 2014 11:16 AM

Giants general manager Jerry Reese is working on possible contract extensions for Osi Umenyiora and Victor Cruz. Umenyiora looks for a new deal every offseason, but there have been some talks since the defensive end helped New York win February's Super Bowl. "I'm still open to that," Reese said. "There has been a little bit of talk, but it is a long way to go before we play and a lot of things for us to do. That is on our plate as well." Meanwhile, Cruz's breakout season makes him look underpaid at $540,000 and he's said that he thinks he deserves more money. "That is on our plate. Everything is on our plate," Reese said.
