Vikings Had Concerns About Teddy Bridgewater's Knee

Mar 28, 2018 8:37 AM

The Minnesota Vikings had concerns about Teddy Bridgewater's knee following a postseason medical evaluation.

Mike Zimmer was asked at the NFL owners meetings about his perspective on the health of the quarterback and what he witnessed after Bridgewater returned to practice this past November.

"The reports I'd get back from the medical people weren't as positive as I was about it," Zimmer said. "That's kind of how it came down is that his knee wasn't as ... he still has some recovery to do. When I watched him in practice, he moved well, I didn't see limitations, but, from what I was told, there was some."

The Vikings allowed Bridgewater to walk in free agency and he signed with the New York Jets.

Bridgewater dislocated his knee during a noncontact drill on Aug. 30, 2016.

Kyle Shanahan Was Still Thinking About Cousins After Garoppolo Trade

Mar 23, 2018 10:10 AM

While Kyle Shanahan always held a high opinion of Jimmy Garoppolo, he preferred the 49ers' plan of pursuing Kirk Cousins.

Shanahan worked with Cousins when he was an assistant coach with Washington.

"For Kyle, I think the thing I would tell people," Lynch shared, "is we made the trade and then there were some days that Kyle Shanahan was like in mourning, because I think everybody knows his master plan was to have Kirk Cousins come in eventually.

"I was proud of Kyle. Because I think he knew that this was the right thing for our franchise, and he didn't hesitate. But even then Jimmy had to really prove himself. I think it was really smart. [Kyle] didn't play him right away. He waited until he had some semblance of an understanding of our scheme when he did put him in. And he put him in in a position to succeed. And then I would tell you that Jimmy really impressed Kyle, to the point that he said, This is our guy."

Shanahan acknowledged to The MMQB's Albert Breer that the specter of Cousins hung over Garoppolo's early days in San Francisco.

"Yeah, of course, it was there," Shanahan said. "Everyone knows how I feel about Kirk. And for anybody who knows how I feel about Kirk, I think this shows how I feel about Jimmy, the fact that we ended up doing this. I'm not a guy who's going to get excited and just go with the momentum, at all. I usually do the opposite, question it to make sure I'm absolutely confident, and not go with the momentum or the excitement.

"Talking about Kirk, understanding where he could be in the next year, for me to feel this way about Jimmy? It says a lot about Jimmy."

Cousins signed with the Vikings this offseason after Washington traded for Alex Smith.

Agent: Kirk Cousins' Biggest Offer Didn't Come From Vikings

Mar 15, 2018 6:56 PM

Kirk Cousins is officially a member of the Minnesota Vikings after signing his fully guaranteed three-year, $84 million contract.

Cousins said that the reason he decided to play for the Vikings wasn't simply for the money.

The quarterback's agent, Mike McCartney, echoed those sentiments.

"Two things I kept saying to Kirk,” McCartney said. "Money is important, contract is important but I want you on a daily basis to jump out of bed excited to go to work, to go into a building that has a great culture and a chance to win. But at the same token at the end of the day, I want you to get excited to go home where your wife and family are flourishing and if we can find both of those I think we’ve done our job."

The agent also said that Minnesota's offer wasn't the largest one of the table for Cousins. McCartney didn't name who might have offered the quarterback more money overall.
