Brian Flores Releases Statement On George Floyd

May 29, 2020 3:45 PM

Brian Flores released a powerful statement on the death of George Floyd.

"I've had the privilege of being a part of many different circles that have included some very powerful and influential people of all different races and genders. The events of the last few weeks have brought some of the memories of those conversations back to light. I vividly remember the Colin Kaepernick conversations. 'Don't ever disrespect the flag' was the phrase that I heard over and over again. This idea that players were kneeling in support of social justice was something some people couldn't wrap their head around. The outrage that I saw in the media and the anger I felt in some of my own private conversations caused me to sever a few long-standing friendships.

"Most recently, I've had conversations about incentivizing teams for hiring minorities. Again, there was some outrage in the media and talks that this would cause division amongst coaches, executives and ownership. I bring these situations up because I haven't seen the same OUTRAGE from people of influence when the conversation turns to Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and most recently George Floyd. Many people who broadcast their opinions on kneeling or on the hiring of minorities don't seem to have an opinion on the recent murders of these young black men and women. I think many of them QUIETLY say that watching George Floyd plead for help is one of the more horrible things they have seen, but it's said amongst themselves where no one can hear. Broadcasting THAT opinion clearly is not important enough.

"I lead a group of young men who have the potential to make a real impact in this world. My message to them and anyone else who wants to listen is that honesty, transparency, and empathy go a long way in bringing people together and making change. I hope that the tragedies of the last few weeks will open our hearts and minds to a better way of communicating and hopefully create that change."

Stephen Ross: There Definitely Will Be An NFL Season This Year

May 26, 2020 1:43 PM

Stephen Ross is optimistic the NFL will play its 2020 season even if there are no fans in the stands.

"I think there definitely will be a football season this year," Ross said Tuesday during an interview with CNBC. "Real question is, will there be fans in the stadium? Right now -- today -- we're planning to have fans in the stadium."

The FL has yet to make a decision on whether fans will be allowed into stadiums in 2020. The league, however, plans on playing its full 16-game schedule on time beginning on September 10.

"We all miss our sports," Ross said. "The NFL, I think, will be ready to go. I know we're all looking forward to it. I know I am."

Dolphins Aren't Opposed To Playing Tua Tagovailoa As Rookie

May 26, 2020 9:06 AM

The Miami Dolphins are not opposed to playing Tua Tagovailoa as a rookie despite the presence of Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Miami drafted Tagovailoa with the fifth overall pick last month.

The main issue for the rookie quarterback may be the lack of normal offseason programs, OTAs and the on-field reps amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Falcons Eye Joint Practices With Dolphins, Bills

May 13, 2020 8:44 AM

Dan Quinn says the Atlanta Falcons have discussed having joint practices with the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills, the first two opponents on the team's preseason schedule.

Quinn cautioned that the decision isn't final with so much uncertainty regarding the coronavirus pandemic and how it will affect the timing of teams returning to the field.

"As far as the timing regarding doing some scrimmaging [with] some other teams, the two teams that we spoke to way back in the offseason were Miami and Buffalo," Quinn said. "And so if those guidelines are in place that we're able to, we will. And then obviously if they're not, we won't."

The Falcons are scheduled to host the Dolphins between Aug. 13-17 and are scheduled to visit the Bills between Aug. 20-24.

Tua Tagovailoa To Wear No. 1 For Dolphins

May 6, 2020 8:53 AM

Tua Tagovailoa will be the first player in Miami Dolphins history to wear No. 1.

The Dolphins drafted the quarterback with the fifth overall pick. He wore No. 13 at Alabama, but Miami retired that number to honor Dan Marino. Tagovailoa didn't consider asking Marino to unretire his jersey, instead taking his own path with No. 1.

"For me, I'm not too worried about what number I have. I understand No. 13 is retired, and it should be," Tagovailoa said shortly after he was drafted. "Dan Marino, he's the GOAT. He's like the mayor out there, and I have much respect for him. Whatever number I'm given by that organization, if it's 78 or 99 -- I'll wear it. It doesn't matter."

Dolphins Reveal Plans To Have Fans At Stadium

May 4, 2020 12:02 PM

The Miami Dolphins have revealed plans on how they could host fans in their stadium during the 2020 season amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

CEO/president Tom Garfinkel revealed to Good Morning America mock ups of new entrances into Hard Rock Stadium that would help adhere to social distance guidelines.

"We would have times to come in for security at different gates so people would be separated out in terms of when they enter the stadium," Garfinkel said. "We would exit the stadium much like a church environment where each row exits so people aren't filing out all at the same time in a herd."

The mock up including colored spots on the ground leading up to entrance gates to designate the distance needed between fans as they file into the stadium.

Hard Rock Stadium can hold approximately 65,000 fans for a football game, but the Dolphins said they might be down to 15,000 fans for the next season as the adjust to a different set up.
