Chiefs Aren't Ready To Replace Alex Smith With Patrick Mahomes

Nov 27, 2017 8:36 AM

Andy Reid says he's not ready to bench Alex Smith in favor of rookie Patrick Mahomes.

The Kansas City Chiefs have lost three straight games and Smith continues to struggle to get the offense going.

"No," Reid said when asked if a change would be made soon. "That's not where I'm at right now. There's a couple other things I got to take care of."

Kansas City has averaged just 12 points over their last three games. Through five games, they were 5-0 and averaging 32.8 points per games.

Chiefs Sign Darrelle Revis

Nov 23, 2017 1:16 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed Darrelle Revis.

Revis had been a free agent this season.

"The reason for me returning is the fire I have, the fuel I have to continue to play this game at a high level,'' Revis said. "My role is to help win. Whatever is best for the team, whether my position is playing a few downs or playing in the slot, wherever Coach wants to play me and feels he can utilize me to help win.''

Marcus Peters and Steven Nelson have been the starting cornerbacks, but the Chiefs have struggled to find any consistency from their third cornerbacks.

Andy Reid: Quarterback Must Get Offense In Rhythm

Nov 21, 2017 9:27 AM

The Kansas City Chiefs have lost four of their last five games as they've started to struggle offensively.

Andy Reid placed a lot of blame on Alex Smith for failing to get the Chiefs in a rhythm.

"[Smith] mentioned about getting in rhythm, I know that was said. I felt the same way that we, over the last couple of weeks, we get going and then all of a sudden something takes you backwards. In this league that's a tough thing to overcome and it's a proven thing," Reid said.

When asked to expand on who bares the responsibility for getting the offense in rhythm, Reid continued.

"The quarterback has the responsibility there," he said. "He's a standup guy and he's always going to tell you he can do better."

Dak Prescott Learned QB Position From Watching Alex Smith

Nov 2, 2017 1:57 PM

When Dak Prescott was in college, he learned to play quarterback by watching clips of Alex Smith.

Prescott's head coach at Mississippi State, Dan Mullen, used video clips of Smith in college at Utah. Mullen was Smith's position coach at Utah.

"Half the plays we ran were brought from Utah," Prescott said. "He would show clips of Alex running them, stuff from the shovel pass to the option to stuff in the pass game. I was honestly in college trying to mimic what Alex was doing at Utah.

"I just know a lot of Alex through Coach Mullen. Oftentimes Coach Mullen, in coaching or just trying to give a reference, would mention Alex. I didn't know him before the NFL but I just know a lot about him and his game through Coach Mullen."

Smith and Prescott met at last year's Super Bowl.

"I keep track of him, for sure," Smith said. "We have mutual college coaches, so I definitely followed him all through college and the last couple of years. How could you not be impressed with what he's done up to this point? To step into that role, you're not expected [to play]; you've got big shoes to fill, obviously, with Romo going out.

"To come in and to make the plays that he's done as a young guy, that's hard, really hard. To be as consistent [and] to do the little things, that's the thing you see as well. You see both. He's got the big-play ability, but then coming in and also being so solid, doing the little things play in and play out, giving his team a good chance. I've been really impressed and obviously a fan of his. Just not this week."
