Agent: Matt Jones Won't Face Suspension

Oct 31, 2014 4:48 AM

Matt Jones has been notified he will not be suspended as the result of his violation of a court-mandated drug program, his agent said. Jones was told last week that he will be fined $50,000, but not suspended. Even without a suspension, the Players Association has urged him to appeal the fine. The wide receiver was suspended for the final three games of the 2008 season after he lost a league appeal stemming from his arrest for cocaine possession last July.

Jags Sign QB Bouman To Compete As Backup

May 17, 2014 8:07 AM

The Jaguars have signed veteran quarterback Todd Bouman, who will compete with Cleo Lemon to serve as David Garrard's backup. He spent part of the 2007 season with Jacksonville as a backup to Quinn Gray, who was replacing an injured Garrard. The Jaguars only carried two quarterbacks on their active roster last year, so Bouman and Lemon are battling for a spot as well.

Garrard: Jaguars Have Playoff-Caliber Team

May 17, 2014 5:43 AM

Jaguars quarterback David Garrard, who like the team struggled last season, believes that the pieces are in place for a turnaround this season. "We definitely have a playoff-caliber team here," Garrard said. "[But] talking about it is not going to get it done. I really feel like [Del Rio] and [general manager] Gene Smith have done a great job of bringing in talent around here to help us get back to the playoffs." Garrard wasn't protected well last season, and suffered a physical beating from defenses. Jacksonville believes they have solved that problem by drafting tackles Eugene Monroe and Eben Britton.
