Atlanta Falcons general manager Terry Fontenot says that doing right by Matt Ryan was more important to the franchise than getting the best return in a trade for the quarterback.

The Falcons dealt Ryan to the Indianapolis Colts for a third-round pick this year.

"It was more important to us to do right by Matt than to try to maximize compensation," Fontenot said. "We could have probably traded Matt to somewhere he didn't want to be and gotten more. We said, 'If we're going to go down this road, we want to do right by Matt.'"

The Indianapolis Colts have acquired Matt Ryan from the Atlanta Falcons for a 2022 third round pick.

The Colts were desperate for a quarterback after they traded Carson Wentz to the Washington Commanders for third-round picks in 2022 and 2023. 

Ryan will be the fifth starting quarterback in Frank Reich's tenure. The Colts have been looking for a long-term answer since Andrew Luck retired in August 2019. 

The trade will leave a dead-money charge of $40.525 million on the Falcons' salary cap this season.

The Falcons tried to trade for Deshaun Watson last week, which put the future of Ryan in question.

Baker Mayfield has informed the Cleveland Browns that he would like a trade to the Indianapolis Colts.

Mayfield requested a trade from the Browns following their pursuit of Deshaun Watson.

The Colts traded away Carson Wentz this offseason and are in need of a quarterback.

Teams have submitted two separate proposals to adjust overtime, following months of discussion about the advantage of winning the opening possession.

The proposals have not yet been endorsed by the competition committee, but by rule they can be put to a vote later this month during the annual league meetings.

The Indianapolis Colts and Philadelphia Eagles have proposed that both teams be allowed at least one possession in overtime.

The Tennessee Titans' proposal calls for both teams to get at least one possession unless the team that opens overtime with the ball scores a touchdown and then converts a two-point attempt.

The Indianapolis Colts are on the hunt for a new quarterback after trading Carson Wentz to the Washington Commanders.

According to a report, the Colts are expected to be in the mix for Jimmy Garoppolo.

The San Francisco 49ers are widely expected to move on from Garoppolo this offseason after trading up last April to draft Trey Lance.

Garoppolo recently underwent successful surgery on his throwing shoulder, which will sideline him for a chunk of the offseason.

The Washington Commanders have agreed to acquire Carson Wentz from the Indianapolis Colts for third round picks in 2022 and 2023 and a second round round pick swap in 2022.

The 2023 third-rounder can become a second-round pick if Wentz plays 70% of Washington's snaps. 

Washington will pay the full $28 million due to Wentz for the 2022 season, which includes a $5 million roster bonus due next week.

The trade comes one week after Commanders general manager Martin Mayhew said the team had "canvassed the league effectively" to find a quarterback.

Frank Reich had no real update on Carson Wentz's status with the Indianapolis Colts while speaking to the media on Tuesday.

"We'll continue the evaluation process," Reich said. "In this business everybody and everything get evaluated every year. And the second thing we know is head coach and quarterback get the most scrutiny."

Reich was the driving force behind the Colts trading a first-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles for Wentz last offseason.

"I believe in Carson. I stuck my neck out for him," Reich said.

Carson Wentz is preparing as though he'll be the starting quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts in 2022.

Wentz posted photos on Instagram working out with receivers Michael Pittman and Dezmon Patmon titled, "Another day at the office with the guys."

There has been speculation about Wentz's future with the Colts after just one season.

Wentz's entire $22 million base salary becomes guaranteed on March 18 -- $7 million more than the already $15 million guaranteed. He's also due a $6.294 million roster bonus.
