Texans Compare Case Keenum To Doug Flutie

Oct 31, 2014 7:23 AM

The Houston Texans decided to start Case Keenum at quarterback in Week 7 with Matt Schaub injured.

"I think there's uniqueness to guys like him, don't necessarily have the physical stature that you're looking for, but can make up for it in other ways with some other skills or vision or being able to move," quarterbacks coach Karl Dorrell told Ian Rapoport. "That's usually the case from guys that are his size, so he was able to really ... In the same mindset with Doug Flutie."

Keenum went undrafted in 2012 out of Houston.

Matt Schaub has been struggling this season, but has been ruled out due to an ankle and foot injury.

"We're struggling, and we're looking for a spark," Gary Kubiak said. "I think he deserves an opportunity to go out there. It's a tough place to play. It's a tough place to get your first start and all that good stuff. But I'm not sending him out there by himself. I'm sending him out there with his football team, and the guys understand that."

Matt Schaub Continues To Have Support Of Texans' Teammates

May 18, 2014 5:33 AM

Matt Schaub still has the respect and support of his Houston Texans' teammates as he continues to struggle this season.

"He still has the respect of these guys," reporter Jeff Darlington said. "They really do believe in him, and they refuse to think a guy, just one year ago who passed for 4,000 yards, who had nearly twice as many touchdowns as interceptions, has just lost it. They can't figure it out though, and that might be as big a problem as anything."

Gary Kubiak admitted this week that he struggled with whether to start Schaub or T.J. Yates.
