NFL Penalizes Lions For Tampering With Chiefs

Oct 31, 2014 5:50 PM

The NFL says the Lions have violated the league's policy against tampering and ruled they must forfeit their upcoming seventh-round draft pick and exchange fifth-round picks with the Chiefs. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell issued the ruling Friday for violations last year involving players under contract with Kansas City. The fifth-round switch leaves Detroit with the 23rd pick in the round instead of the ninth.

Lions Can Now Release Julian Peterson

Aug 6, 2014 3:40 PM

Monday marks the first day in which the Lions can release linebacker Julian Peterson if they so choose. Detroit has already told Peterson that he won't return to the team next season. The Lions acquired Peterson two years ago in a trade with the Seahawks that sent Cory Redding (who is now with the Ravens) and a fifth-round draft pick to Seattle. He is owed more than $16 million over two years.

Suh Named Top Defensive Rookie

Nov 21, 2014 2:28 PM

Ndamukong Suh won The Associated Press 2010 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award on Friday. The only rookie on the All-Pro team, Suh validated Detroit selecting him second overall in last April's draft. Detroit won its final four games to finish 6-10, triple the number of victories the Lions managed in the previous two seasons combined. Suh was a major reason with 10 sacks, the most at the position, veteran or rookie, and 66 tackles. "We didn't learn how to finish games and overcome mistakes until the end of the year," Suh said. "But we figured it out and I think our four-game winning streak is definitely something for us to build on going into next season."
