Suh Continues To Ignore Dirty Player Talk

Nov 2, 2014 12:26 AM

Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh isn't concerned about his style of play. "I'll consider myself a dirty player when my mom calls me a dirty player," he said. Suh is back in the spotlight after an incident with Patriots lineman Logan Mankins during a post-whistle scuffle on Saturday night. The defender pointed out that an official saw the entire play and that they had discussed Suh's attempt to get Mankins away from the Detroit's Lawrence Jackson. Suh was not called for a penalty, while Mankins received a personal foul for grabbing Jackson's face mask. "I don't regret it at all," Suh said. "What I find funny about the situation is that I wasn't the one called for the 15-yard face-mask penalty, and I also didn't know you could get fined for defending a teammate." He said he had a "great talk about the play with the referee who was right there." "He said in the future, I should let them handle those situations, but that he understood exactly what I was trying to do," he said.

Calvin Johnson Planning Special TD Celebration

May 20, 2014 4:29 PM

Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson is working on a spectacular celebration for a touchdown this season. "Certain things have to happen in the course of the play that will make this the best celebration you've ever seen," fellow receiver Nate Burleson said. "I guarantee it." Johnson confirmed there's something in the works, but he wouldn't offer a hint. "You'll just have to wait and see," he said. "If the stars align, it'll happen. But I'm not going to tell what it is right now."

Suh: I Haven't Crossed The Line

Oct 15, 2014 7:03 PM

Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh has received some criticism after being flagged for roughing the passer in the team's preseason game against the Bengals on Friday night. Suh slammed Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton to the turf as he was releasing the ball. He was called for four personal foul penalties last season and was fined twice. "You can ask Kyle (Vanden Bosch), the tradition we have at Nebraska, the Black Shirt tradition, is one of aggressiveness and imposing your will on any player that's opposing you," Suh said. "With that, we play at a very high tempo. ... That's our nature. That's how I grew up in the game of football." As for those who might judge him as a dirty player? "There's always a fine line between dirtiness and aggressiveness," Suh said. "I know to this point, in my own heart, I haven't crossed that line by any means."

Lions Deny Tampering With Ricky Williams

May 17, 2014 10:19 PM

The Lions claim a conversation offensive coordinator Scott Linehan had with then Dolphins running back Ricky Williams after a game last year did not constitute tampering. "I talked to Scott about it, and the conversation that Scott had -- I'm very confident that there was nothing more to it than just well-wishing after a game," Lions coach Jim Schwartz said. "There's coaches after every single game that see players that they coached before and wish them well and things like that. I think it can end there. "It's pretty ridiculous that somebody would even consider that -- I know it's just a reporter, but somebody would even consider that anything more than just well-wishing. I don't know how many times I've had players that I've played in the past come up and ask how the family is and say, 'Great, hey, good luck in the future, hope our paths cross again sometime.' Something like that. It's just life in the NFL." Williams told the Florida radio station WQAM-AM in an interview Monday that Linehan "came up to me after the (the Lions beat the Dolphins last year), and he said that if you need a home, we'd love to have you on our team." Linehan said in a released statement that the conversation didn’t happen the way Williams remembered.

Lions Sign Bell, Harrison For Backfield

Sep 8, 2014 6:22 AM

The Lions have signed veteran running backs Mike Bell and Jerome Harrison to shore up their backfield. Ten months after being traded for each other, Bell and Harrison were signed to play together on Monday night. Detroit made the move a few hours after promising rookie Mikel Leshoure tore his left Achilles tendon, ending his season before it began. "We needed some running backs with Leshoure's injury and Maurice Morris still not cleared for contact with his (broken) hand," Lions coach Jim Schwartz said. "Now we've been able to bring in two quality players with NFL experience."
