Cincinnati Will Be Without Benson
Bengals running back Cedric Benson will not play against the Browns on Sunday because of a hip injury.
Sources told the NFL Network's Jason La Canfora earlier that Benson would be active. He missed last week's loss to Oakland with the injury.
Benson has 859 yards and six touchdowns on 205 carries this season.
Bengals One Win From Feat Similar To 'Dating Halle Berry'
If the Bengals beat the Browns on Sunday, they'll have gone undefeated in the tough AFC North.
Cincinnati is 5-0 in their division entering Sunday's action, having beaten the Steelers (twice), Ravens (twice) and Browns.
"That would mean a lot. That's like me dating Halle Berry," wide receiver Chad Ochocinco said.
The Bengals have never accomplished the feat.
"I don't think it would mean much more than that. I don't think we get anything for it, that's all I mean," coach Marvin Lewis said. "I don't mean to belittle that. We don't get anything for it. It's one step along the way, which is a good thing. It would be one goal accomplished. Obviously, our goals go a little longer down the line than that."
Benson Unlikely To Play Against Raiders
Bengals running back Cedric Benson is unlikely to play against the Raiders on Sunday.
Benson did not practice for the second straight day on Thursday with a hip flexor.
Larry Johnson, who was signed earlier this week, will be asked to handle some of the rushing load.
"It's a new offense and they have to get comfortable with trusting me to step in there," said Johnson. "The plays are the same handing off and right now the exchange has been pretty good between Carson (Palmer) and myself."
Benson Not Thrilled With LJ Signing
Cedric Benson didn't appear especially thrilled with Cincinnati's addition of Larry Johnson.
"Oh, I didn't know I was supposed to be jumping out of my seat or anything," said Benson. "I really have no feelings about it. They made a move they felt they needed to do, and that's fine with me. ... It's not going to affect me in any kind of way."
The Bengals signed Johnson after he was released last week by the Kansas City Chiefs.
Raiders To Start Gradowski Over JaMarcus
According to the Raiders Twitter feed, Tom Cable has named Bruce Gradkowski the starting quarterback for Sunday?s game against Cincinnati.
Gradowski went 5-for-9 with two interceptions in last Sunday's loss to Kansas City.
LJ: Game Against Chiefs Is 'Best Christmas Gift' I Can Get
Bengals running back Larry Johnson is very much looking forward to the team's Dec. 27 game against the Chiefs.
Kansas City cut Johnson loose earlier this month.
"I'd be lying if I said I ain't looking at that as a game I want to definitely play in," Johnson said. "But we take it game at a time, one situation at a time, I'm just trying to get on the field as of right now, if that happens, it'd be the best Christmas gift I can get."
Johnson signed with the Bengals on Tuesday.
Bengals Work Out Joey Galloway
The Bengals had free agent wide receiver Joey Galloway in for a tryout on Tuesday.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the news on his Twitter page.
"Cincinnati Bengals did more than sign Larry Johnson. They tried out WR Joey Galloway and two former Colts, DT Ed Johnson and S Mike Doss," he wrote.
Bengals Officially Sign Larry Johnson
The Bengals have officially signed running back Larry Johnson to a deal.
Johnson will collect $4 million from the Chiefs, who released him recently, and earn an additional $255,290 from the Bengals, which is the veteran minimum for the remainder of this season.
Bengals, Larry Johnson Agree To Terms
Larry Johnson has agreed to terms on a contract with the Bengals, a source told NFL.com.
The deal is expected to be finalized on Tuesday.
Cincinnati coach Marvin Lewis said on Monday that Johnson would have a limited role with the team, which leads the AFC North division.
Larry Johnson Expects To Sign With Bengals
Larry Johnson traveled to Cincinnati on Monday and expects to sign with the Bengals.
A source familiar with the negotiations told ESPN's Michael Smith of the talks.
If a contract agreement is reached, it's expected to be for the league's prorated minimum.
Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said that Johnson would come on as the team's fourth running back.
"That's what his role would be, it would be as a fourth running back and an opportunity as a backup player on this football team doing all the things backup players do, and that's work their tails off in the kicking game and showing looks [on the scout team] and so forth that way," Lewis said. "And then he would be an insurance policy if something would happen down the line to one of our guys where he'd have a chance to be active.
"But I couldn't foresee him being active when he was initially here, if this is what happens. And that's what I've told him."
