Ryan Poles Backs Justin Fields, 'Encouraged' By Progress

Oct 25, 2022 8:58 AM

Ryan Poles expressed support for Justin Fields during an impromptu news conference at Gillette Stadium hours before the Chicago Bears beat the New England Patriots 33-14 on Monday Night Football.

"I know Justin has been a big topic and his development," Poles said. "And we're encouraged with the progress that is there. It's not on the statistics and on the paper all the time, but he is getting better in a lot of different areas. I think as a whole, we've got to continue to play better around him as well to allow him to keep playing well and get his confidence going and execute at a high level."

On Monday night, Fields threw for 179 yards with one passing touchdown and an interception. He also rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown.

Poles said he will be looking at "a few different things" in his evaluation of Fields over the Bears' next 11 games.

"How he's being used? Are we putting him in the position where he can be successful? And then the execution and the details of what he's being asked to do and really speeding up to the game and making decisions quicker," Poles said. "But again, the beautiful thing about football, it's reliant on everybody else. As a whole, we have to improve, and I think we'll see that everyone stats to get better and then we'll start to ascend."

Justin Fields: Tired Of Bears Being 'Almost There'

Oct 14, 2022 9:01 AM

Justin Fields expressed frustration with the status of the Chicago Bears after the team's loss to the Washington Commanders on Thursday night.

Fields took a number of hits as the Bears dropped their third-straight game.

"We always get told that 'we're almost there, we're almost there,'" Fields said. "Me, personally, I'm tired of being almost there. I'm tired of being just this close. I feel like I've been hearing it for so long now. At the end of the day, all you can do is get back to work. That's the only reaction you have. You live and you learn. Just get back next week and keep going, keep getting better."

For the second time in three games, the Bears failed to score on three trips inside the red zone.

According to ESPN Stats & Information, the Bears are the second team this season to accumulate at least 390 yards of offense and less than 10 points in a game.

Bears OC: Justin Fields Hasn't Had A 'Rough Month'

Oct 7, 2022 8:56 AM

Justin Fields ranks last in a number of quarterback metrics this season, but Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy doesn't believe the young QB has had a difficult month.

Fields ranks last in the NFL in completions (34), attempts (67), passer rating (58.7) and interception percentage (6).

The Bears rank 32nd in total passing and passing yards per game.

"I don't think he's had a rough month," Getsy said. "I think he's gotten better each week. I think he's growing tremendously. And you know, it's not easy. We're playing good football teams, and it's not easy to become the level of quarterback that he wants to become, and I know that he can become.

"The important thing is that we stay focused, keep our eyes on that progress or on that process and we make sure we get better each and every week and I believe that we're in that phase."
