Bears Won't Rule Out Pursuing Kareem Hunt

Jan 15, 2019 8:20 AM

The Chicago Bears have left open the possibility of pursuing Kareem Hunt in free agency.

Hunt is on the Commissioner Exempt List and would need to be reinstated before he could sign with any team.

The Kansas City Chiefs released Hunt on Dec. 1 after video surfaced of the running back shoving and kicking a woman in the hallway of his Cleveland residence.

Matt Nagy and Hunt have a relationship that dates back to Kansas City, where Nagy served as the Chiefs' offensive coordinator during Hunt's rookie year in 2017.

"I talked to Kareem, completely wanting to know how he's doing," Nagy said. "We had a good conversation. Here's a kid that I spent a year coaching on offense. It's a tough situation. I wanted to see ... making sure that he's OK but understanding, too, the situation that happened is unfortunate for everybody. He knows that.

"The only thing I cared about when I talked to him was literally his personal life, how he's doing. It was a good conversation. He sounded good. But that's it. The other stuff, that's not where it's at. There's more to it than the football, so we talked strictly on that."

Matt Nagy Not Happy With Cody Parkey's TV Appearance

Jan 15, 2019 4:53 PM

Matt Nagy expressed displeasure with Cody Parkey's decision to appear on a network morning show just five days after he missed a potentially game-winning field goal in a playoff loss.

"For me, you understand that we always talk about a 'we' and not a 'me' thing," Nagy said at the Chicago Bears' season-ending news conference. "We always talk as a team, we win as a team, we lose as a team. You know, I just, I didn't necessarily think that that was too much of a 'we' thing."

"Again, I didn't think it was a 'we' thing."

Parkey briefly spoke to reporters at his locker in the immediate aftermath of the Bears' postseason defeat but left the team facility the next day before the club's scheduled media availability.

Nagy said he conducted a standard exit interview with Parkey when the season ended, but that the kicker never discussed the prospect of going on national television later in the week.

Cody Parkey Felt He 'Hit A Good Ball' On Missed FG Tipped At Line

Jan 7, 2019 8:57 AM

Cody Parkey felt good about his attempt at a 43-yard, game-winning field goal on Sunday afternoon.

The Chicago Bears lost to the Philadelphia Eagles 16-15 after Parkey's attempt bounced off the goal post twice. The ball was tipped by Treyvon Hester.

"I feel terrible," Parkey said. "There's really no answer to it. I thought I hit a good ball."

Parkey went 23 of 30 on field goals during the regular season, including some big misses.

"It's one of the worst feelings in the world to let your team down," Parkey said. "I feel terrible. Continue to put things into perspective, continue to just put my best foot forward and just sleep at night knowing that I did everything in my power this week to make that kick and for whatever reason it hit the crossbar and the upright."

Mitchell Trubisky Got Off Social Media To Improve Mental Health

Jan 4, 2019 8:23 AM

Mitchell Trubisky thinks one of the reasons he's been better in 2018 is that he decided to get off social media.

The Chicago Bears quarterback said when he struggled as a rookie in 2017, he'd look on Twitter and see people criticizing him.

"I know what that did to me when I let those voices get inside," Trubisky said. "It was not good for my mental health. People are one keystroke away from accessing you. Why would I allow people who know nothing about me to have an opinion? Why would I allow them to have that space in my mind?"

When on social media, he felt other people were controlling his time.

"If you're conscious of something, then you're also in control," Trubisky said. "And that also takes me back to the social media thing — always being in control of your time and your thoughts. Don't let people on the outside take control. You're in control of your time, and how you're working, and your peace of mind, and how you sleep at night."
