Mike Glennon Feeling 'déjà vu' With Mitch Trubisky Looming

Aug 24, 2017 4:52 PM

Mike Glennon feels his grasp on the starting job slipping away with the Chicago Bears with rookie Mitch Trubisky looming.

Glennon lost the starting job to rookie Jameis Winston in 2015 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

"I mean, déjà vu," Glennon said.

There are differences. Winston was handed the job by the Buccaneers at the start of training camp, while Glennon remains No. 1 on Chicago's depth chart for now.

"They just told me what it was and, 'OK, time to start getting ready,'" Glennon said. "Control what you can control. Outside of that, it just doesn't do you any good to worry about other things."

Charles Leno Jr. Signs Four-Year, $38M Extension With Bears

Aug 23, 2017 1:42 PM

Charles Leno Jr. has agreed upon a four-year, $38 million contract extension with the Chicago Bears.

Leno's deal with the Bears includes $21.5 million in guarantees.

"I think he's played good, solid football," John Fox recently said of Leno. "I think as a football team we all have to get better. But he's been a dependable guy. He's pretty reliable and dependable."

Leno took over the Bears' left tackle position in 2015.

Mitch Trubisky Isn't Buying His Own Hype

Aug 17, 2017 9:25 AM

The hype around Mitch Trubisky is growing, but the Chicago Bears rookie quarterback isn't buying it.

"I don't know what hype you're talking about," Trubisky said. "I don't pay attention to it. It's good to be back at Halas. Finished up camp pretty well. We've just got to continue to bring the energy and keep getting better every day like we have so far. We've still got a lot of work to do. But it's good to be back here and getting back at it."

The Bears' offense came alive when Trubisky took over in last week's preseason game. He completed 18 of 25 passes for 166 yards and picked up three first downs running the ball.

"I've still got a lot of work to do," Trubisky said. "I was pleased with how I played, but plenty more mistakes are going on in practice for me that I need to work on and continue to improve in my game and make sure when I go out there that I'm doing my job to help other people do their job. I think it just showed me that I'm making progress, that I could go out there and lead and do my job like I wanted to show. But it was just a small sample; it was the first game and you've just got to continue to be consistent in reproducing that. That's why we're out here working and practicing."

Bears Won't Change Depth Chart After Mitchell Trubisky's Debut

Aug 11, 2017 2:55 PM

The Chicago Bears won't change their quarterback depth chart despite Mitchell Trubisky's impressive preseason debut on Thursday night.

Trubisky went 18-of-25 for 166 yards, one touchdown and a quarterback rating of 103.1 against the Denver Broncos.

"Our depth chart is not going to change after one game," John Fox said. "That's a really good defense our first unit went against, probably one of the top three defenses in the league. You have to look at a lot of different things. I can understand how you guys might think [we could make a change], but we're not going to change a whole lot after one game."

Meanwhile, veteran Mike Glennon went 2-for-8 for 20 yards and a 0.0 passer rating.

"You kind of have to put it in perspective," Glennon said. "Like I said, we're exactly one month out [from the regular-season opener against the Atlanta Falcons]. For me, it's just good to get back out playing. I got to get used to coming out as a starter and playing and being that guy. A couple more preseason games to tune this up and I'm confident we'll do that."

Jay Cutler Leaning Towards Remaining Retired

Aug 6, 2017 5:23 PM

Jay Cutler is leaning towards staying retired and beginning his career in broadcasting rather than join the Miami Dolphins.

Ryan Tannehill suffered a left knee injury in Thursday's scrimmage that may require season-ending surgery.

Cutler is intrigued by the possibility of playing for Adam Gase.

The more Cutler considers it, however, the more he questions whether a return to football is what he wants, sources said.

One source told Adam Schefter that Cutler is "really struggling to leave his family."
