Chicago Bears defensive back Ricky Manning Jr. was suspended one game by the NFL on Wednesday for his role in a restaurant altercation and will not play this week at New England.

Jerry Angelo, general manager of the Bears, held off on pursuing a contract extension past 2007 for Rex Grossman over the last several weeks. The body of work as well as the body of the quarterback was understandably not proved solid enough yet. But before the big victory over the Giants, Angelo assessed Grossman's status. "We like Rex," he said. "He's still a work in progress. [Sunday] is his 16th start, so it's still early. "The things we see for the most part have been pretty good. When he has a poor game, it's obviously bothersome, and I'm not going to say it's no big deal. It's going to take some time, and then we'll be in a better position to evaluate him. It's not like we have to make a decision right now. "But nobody is thinking he isn't the answer."

Devin Hester of the Chicago Bears tied an NFL record by returning a field goal that came up short 108 yards for a touchdown against the Giants. Hester caught the ball in the back of the end zone after Jay Feely's 52-yard field goal attempt came up short. After hesitating briefly and casually walking to the front of the end zone, Hester took off and sprinted down the right sideline. On Nov. 13, 2005 -- almost exactly a year ago -- the Bears' Nathan Vasher caught Joe Nedney's missed 52-yard field-goal attempt in the back of the end zone on the final play of the first half for a 108-yard TD return.

The New York Giants are anything but healthy heading into a prime-time showdown against the Chicago Bears. The Giants could match the Bears for the NFC's top record Sunday night when the teams meet to highlight Week 10 of the NFL.

The 1972 Dolphins can breathe a little easier. And once again, they can thank a current Miami team for it. Although Dan Marino was nowhere to be found this time, the Dolphins once again upset Chicago to spoil the Bears' bid for a perfect season. Ronnie Brown rushed for a career-high 157 yards and Jason Taylor forced a fumble and returned an interception 20 yards for a touchdown, helping Miami beat Chicago 31-13 on Sunday.

Chicago Bears wide receiver Bernard Berrian left Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins with a rib injury. Berrian caught one pass for 10 yards on the Bears' first possession but did not come out for their second series. With Berrian out, Chicago was left without its primary deep threat. The third-year pro has 27 catches for 495 yards and four touchdowns this season.

Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher hurt his foot when he landed awkwardly in a pileup late in Sunday's 31-13 loss to the Miami Dolphins. "Brian Urlacher there at the end came off the field with a foot injury and we'll see exactly what it is," Bears coach Lovie Smith said, adding he hoped it wasn't serious. "We'll evaluate him and go from there."
