Chicago Bears safety Mike Brown was placed on injured reserve Thursday and will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery a day earlier to repair ligament damage in his right foot. Brown, who made the Pro Bowl last season, was injured in Monday night's 24-23 win at Arizona. He will be replaced in the starting lineup by Todd Johnson.

"Severe blow," coach Lovie Smith said. "I think we all know what Mike means to our football team. He's a special player. He was having an outstanding game. ... That's a big blow, but injuries do happen. Mike has been in this situation before."

Cedric Benson scored his first NFL touchdown on Sunday, adding another later, while Thomas Jones rushed for 100 yards for the first time this season.
