Wearing bright orange uniforms and showing their speed on defense and special teams, the Bears overwhelmed the 49ers from the outset. They jumped to a 24-0 first-quarter lead and 41-0 halftime cushion before coasting to a 41-10 victory Sunday.

Bears' Brown Out For Season

Chicago Bears safety Mike Brown was placed on injured reserve Thursday and will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery a day earlier to repair ligament damage in his right foot. Brown, who made the Pro Bowl last season, was injured in Monday night's 24-23 win at Arizona. He will be replaced in the starting lineup by Todd Johnson.

Mike Brown, strong safety of the Chicago Bears, is out indefinitely after undergoing surgery to repair ligament damage in his right foot Wednesday. Brown limped off the field and was taken from the sideline on a cart during the fourth quarter of Monday's 24-23 comeback victory at Arizona after his foot got twisted on a running play. "Severe blow," coach Lovie Smith said. "I think we all know what Mike means to our football team. He's a special player. He was having an outstanding game. ... That's a big blow, but injuries do happen. Mike has been in this situation before."

Calling the Chicago Bears an offensive juggernaut might seem to defy logic, tradition and the lineage of gritty defenders from Butkus to Singletary to Urlacher. Believe it. Getting a huge boost from their trademark defense, the Bears scored the first five times they had the ball Sunday and ruined the homecoming of former coach Dick Jauron with a 40-7 drubbing of Jauron's Buffalo Bills to go 5-0 for the first time in 20 years.
