Panthers Coach Kicks Robbie Anderson Out Of Game

Oct 17, 2022 8:39 AM

Carolina Panthers interim coach Steve Wilks threw Robbie Anderson out of the game late in the third quarter after the wide receiver was in a heated argument with position coach Joe Dailey.

"No one is bigger than the team," Wilks said. "I'm not going to focus and put a lot of attention on one individual."

Anderson got into a shouting match with Dailey late in the first half and opened the second half on a stationary bicycle.

In the third quarter with the Panthers trailing 17-10, Anderson and Dailey again had an exchange. Wilks stepped in and sent Anderson to the locker room.

Anderson said he "had no idea" why he was sent to the locker room. Dailey was not available for comment, but Anderson opted to talk to reporters after meeting with general manager Scott Fitterer.

"I was honestly confused," Anderson said. "I wanted to be in the game. I've never had somebody yell to get out of the game. So I was honestly confused and upset by that. I should be. I don't see nobody that is a true competitor, that knows the value they bring and has true passion for the game, that will be OK with being told not to do something or being taken out of something when they didn't do nothing wrong."

Baker Mayfield To Miss 2-6 Weeks With High Ankle Sprain

Oct 12, 2022 8:41 AM

Baker Mayfield is expected to miss 2-6 weeks after suffering a high ankle sprain, according to a source.

Tests on the ankle revealed no other structural damage.

Meanwhile, the Carolina Panthers fired Matt Rhule on Monday. Steve Wilks has taken over as interim coach. David Tepper said Wilks, 57, would be considered for the full-time job in 2023 if he "does an incredible job."

P.J. Walker is the only healthy quarterback on the Panthers' roster. Sam Darnold remains on injured reserve with an ankle injury suffered in August and is weeks away from being available.

The team will likely call up Jacob Eason from the practice squad in addition to adding another quarterback.

George Kittle Rips 'Crappy Turf' After 49er Injuries

Oct 10, 2022 12:44 AM

The Niners have have been banging this drum for years: Artificial turf isn't fit for NFL games.

Sunday's win over the Panthers was marred by a paragraph-long injury report, including serious injuries to some of the team's best players. Cornerback Emmanuel Moseley may have torn his ACL, safety Jimmie Ward broke his hand, and kicker Robbie Gould and defensive end Nick Bosa left with leg injuries. And while the Niners have been bitten by the injury bug all season, Sunday happened to be their first game on FieldTurf.

"If you're not gonna mandate grass, why aren't all turf fields the exact same turf so guys get used to playing on the same turf everywhere?" asked George Kittle, who escaped from the 37-15 win unscathed. "NBA guys don't play on different wood, so what are we doing. ... I just wish we played on a surface that was similar every single week in and week out, so your body wouldn't just be dealing with different crappy turf."
