After starting 5-2 this season, the Bills still endured their seventh straight losing year. "I guess we weren't ready for it yet," Ryan Fitzpatrick said. "We weren't ready to be able to accept the fact that we were playing well and playing as the team that was on the top (of the AFC East)." Fitzpatrick started the season well. He passed for 1,739 yards and 14 touchdowns while giving up just seven interceptions and compiling a passer rating of 97.8 during those first seven games. The Bills and Fitzpatrick both took a nosedive shortly after a new contract was reached. During the ensuing seven-game losing streak, Fitzpatrick compiled a passer rating of 66.2 and was picked off 12 times while throwing for just eight scores.

The Bills have had new talks in a bid to re-sign receiver Stevie Johnson. Buffalo general manager Buddy Nix regards adding a pass-rusher as being the team's top priority this offseason. Nix says the team wants Johnson back and adds there's been "dialogue" between the two sides in the past week. Johnson has been the team's leading receiver in each of the two past two years and is eligible to become a free agent in March.

Dave Wannstedt is taking over as the Bills defensive coordinator, according to an ESPN.com report on Monday. Wasting little time, head coach Chan Gailey spent Monday charting an offseason course mixed with both change and continuity in a bid to turn around the Bills after their seventh straight losing season. The first and most significant move had George Edwards being fired as defensive coordinator and replaced by Wannstedt. It's a promotion for Wannstedt after he spent this past year serving as assistant head coach/inside linebackers.
