Sammy Watkins Wants Buffalo's New Coach To Be Hard On Team

Dec 30, 2016 9:06 AM

The Buffalo Bills have moved on from Rex Ryan and Sammy Watkins believes the team needs a coach that will be harder on them.

"Whatever around the locker room that needs to be addressed, on the field, off the field, flags," Watkins said. "Whether it's working on things in the summer that we're not good at and being a professional. As players that's got to get fixed first. Then the coaches have got to be hard on us, not scared of us. Get at us, yell at us, curse at us, whatever to get the player to do that job the best he can that's what they need to do."

Tyrod Taylor Could Undergo Sports Hernia Surgery, Cost Bills $30.5M

Dec 30, 2016 9:07 AM

Tyrod Taylor will be seen by Dr. William Meyers for a severe groin injury to determine if he needs surgery.

If that happens to Taylor, the clock will begin to tick on whether he can pass a physical before the third day of the 2017 league year.

The procedure could cost the Bills $30.5 million in guaranteed money to Taylor, who the franchise appears to prefer to move on from.

Anthony Lynn: Starting EJ Manuel 'A Business Decision'

Dec 29, 2016 7:36 AM

Interim Buffalo Bills coach Anthony Lynn says that starting EJ Manuel over Tyrod Taylor on Sunday is "a business decision."

Manuel, a former first-round pick, has struggled and the decision has left some confused.

"That was a business decision and we wanted to look at the depth of our quarterback position and we're out of the playoffs, so we wanted to see what the other two guys can do," Lynn said of Manuel and Cardale Jones.

Later on, Lynn referred to it separately as "our decision" but also said "I wasn't in that room when that decision was made."

Only Steelers Rank In Top-10 In Offense, Defense DVOA (Infographic)

Dec 21, 2016 10:38 AM

The NFL has very teams this season that excel in all facets of the game. Further evidence of this issue shows itself in the fact that there is only one team ranking in the top-10 in both Football Outsiders' Offensive and Defensive DVOA: the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers are 9-5 after winning five straight games and must beat the Baltimore Ravens in Week 16 to ensure their place in the playoffs. Pittsburgh ranks third in total DVOA and first in Weighted DVOA.

Last season, the Seattle Seahawks, Carolina Panthers, Arizona Cardinals, Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs ranked in the top-10 on both sides of the ball. The Chiefs are the closest team to joining the Steelers in the top-10 in both Offensive and Defensive DVOA at 13th and 12th.

The Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots rank first and second overall in DVOA as they rank second and third, respectively in Offensive DVOA but 20th and 19th in Defensive DVOA. The Atlanta Falcons rank first in Offensive DVOA, 27th in Defensive and fourth overall. The Green Bay Packers and Oakland Raiders have similar splits as the Cowboys and Patriots, while the Seahawks, Baltimore Ravens and New York Giants are the inverse of those teams with top-5 defenses and offenses below the NFL mean.

Eric Wood: Don't Fire Rex Ryan, Bills Are 'So Freaking Close'

Dec 19, 2016 8:23 AM

Reports have indicated that the Buffalo Bills plan to fire Rex Ryan, but that hasn't stopped some of his players from coming to his defense.

The Bills beat the Cleveland Browns on Sunday to remain mathematically alive in the playoff race with two games remaining.

Eric Wood, who is out with a broken leg, said he would tell Buffalo ownership that Ryan should remain on the job.

"I'm a Rex guy. I like Rex a lot. I like him as a coach. I think he's a great leader," Wood said. "I know it doesn’t feel like it all the time, but we're so freaking close."

Marcell Dareus: Bills Won't Be Team To Lose To Winless Browns

Dec 15, 2016 7:45 AM

The Buffalo Bills have lost five of their last seven games, but Marcell Dareus is confident they'll beat the winless Cleveland Browns this weekend.

"That's just a guarantee," Dareus told The Buffalo News. "We ain't gonna be that team. We're not going to be the team that busts [the Browns' losing streak] on them, no. Nobody in the league wants that to happen [to them], no."

Joe Thomas said the Browns will try to prove Dareus wrong.

"I hate that guy," Thomas said jokingly. "I'm gonna kill him. That's great. The mindset we're going to have is just the same. We're gonna make them the team that we break the streak on. I think that's, as a football player, our competitive nature, and that's the way we train ourselves to think every single week."

Bills Haven't Reached Decision On Tyrod Taylor For 2017

Dec 9, 2016 12:14 PM

The Buffalo Bills will not say whether they have made a decision on the future of Tyrod Taylor in 2017.

Buffalo owes Taylor a massive amount of money, approximately $30 million, should he remain on the roster when the NFL year changes.

"No, no, no," Doug Whaley told WGR 550 when asked if they'd reached a decision. "We've said from Day 1 that we're going to give him this whole season, and after that, we'll sit down with the coaches, the ownership group and make the decision."

Taylor's completion percentage is down three points from last year and he's on pace to throw five fewer touchdown passes than in 2015.
