Boller To Visit Specialist

Oct 18, 2014 10:10 PM

Quarterback Kyle Boller will see a specialist in North Carolina today, the Baltimore Sun reported. His hyperextended right big toe could even need surgery. Coach Brian Billick has been cautious since the injury opening weekend, saying Boller could be back by Oct. 2 or out as long as two months. After a TV report about potential surgery, he had this to say: "He's been told that there's a possibility of surgery since the injury happened," Billick told the Sun. "There was always that possibility. I don't know if it's any more viable now than it was before."

Ravens Decativate Kyle Boller

Oct 18, 2014 10:12 PM

The team deactivated quarterback Kyle Boller, giving Anthony Wright his first start since Jan. 3, 2004, also against the Titans. Boller hyperextended his right big toe and hurt his ankle in the Ravens' season-opening 24-7 loss to Indianapolis, and Wright replaced him to finish the game. Wright did not play in 2004 after having offseason surgery on his shoulder. Kordell Stewart, who was signed on Wednesday, was deactivated as the emergency third quarterback.

Wright May Keep Ravens Starting QB Duties

Oct 28, 2014 4:44 PM

Baltimore Ravens coach Bill Billick expressed the possibility that Anthony Wright may keep starting quarterback responsibilities even if Kyle Boller recovers from a toe injury. "Anthony Wright is our starting quarterback, and he will be our starting quarterback until circumstances change," Billick said. "That's the only approach we can take. Anthony Wright is our starting quarterback, and Kyle will be in a boot watching the game this weekend. That's about as far as we're going to go forward with it."

Ravens Sign Kordell Stewart

Aug 6, 2014 8:58 PM

With starting quarterback Kyle Boller sidelined indefinitely by a severely sprained toe, the Ravens on Wednesday signed veteran free agent Kordell Stewart to bolster the depth chart. A 10-year veteran, Stewart was with the Ravens in 2004, and appeared in two games, but the team did not attempt to re-sign him this spring as an unrestricted free agent. Stewart drew very little interest, in fact, in the free agent market. But when Boller was injured on a sack by Indianapolis defensive tackle Larry Tripplett on Sunday, and tests indicated that he would miss playing time, the Ravens phoned Stewart. Baltimore officials considered a few other free agent quarterbacks, including Danny Kanell, but Stewart's familiarity with the Ravens offense gave him a big edge. Stewart spent much of Tuesday at the team complex, meeting with coaches and going over the playbook with them

Boller's X-Rays On Right Toe Come Back Negative

Dec 5, 2013 2:13 AM

X-rays on Ravens quarterback Kyle Boller's right toe were negative and he has been diagnosed with a hyper-extended right big toe. Boller was injured Sunday night while being sacked by the Colts' Larry Triplett in the third quarter. He was helped from the field after the team trainer removed his right shoe and sock. After Sunday night's game, Boller told The Baltimore Sun that his toe was sore. "I've never had any foot problems before," Boller told the newspaper. "It's concerning because it's my plant foot."

Deion Makes $1,000 Challenge To Professional Athletes For Katrina

Nov 24, 2014 7:26 AM

Baltimore Ravens cornerback Deion Sanders challenged all professional athletes to donate at least $1,000 apiece through payroll deductions to benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Flanked by teammates and Louisiana natives Ed Reed and Alan Ricard, Sanders on Friday called for each team in the NFL, NBA and Major League Baseball, as well as other pro sports, to help him reach a goal of $1.5 million to $3 million for the cause. "The recent devastation of Hurricane Katrina in the aftermath of her wrath, there has been a loss of life, property, finances, homelessness and a multitude of atrocities. The people affected by this disaster is astronomical," Sanders said. "As citizens of this country, we need to unite to help our brothers and sisters in their time of need. We must all stretch the boundaries of the giving as far as we are able to, knowing we will enrich the lives of others." On Thursday, Louisiana native Warrick Dunn -- the NFL Man of the Year in 2004 -- made an emotional plea to NFL players to contribute at least $5,000 apiece to relief efforts, saying players have a moral obligation to help. The Falcons running back said the Saints shouldn't have to give, but getting the 53 players on the 31 other teams to donate the $5,000 would boost the relief effort by more than $8.2 million.
