Sony Michel Signs With Chargers

Aug 31, 2022 3:34 PM

The Los Angeles Chargers have signed Sony Michel after he was released this week by the Miami Dolphins.

Michel played for the Los Angeles Rams last season where he rushed for 540 yards between Week 13 and Week 18.

Michel signed a one-year contract with the Dolphins this offseason but was the odd man out in a crowded backfield. The Dolphins have Chase Edmonds, Raheem Mostert, Salvon Ahmed and Myles Gaskin on their roster at running back, as well as fullback Alec Ingold.

Ravens To Sign Kenyan Drake

The Baltimore Ravens are expected to sign Kenyan Drake, according to a source.

Drake, 28, was released by the Las Vegas Raiders last week.

The Ravens' running back room is banged up. J.K. Dobbins (knee) is uncertain for Week 1 and Gus Edwards (knee) will miss the first four weeks of the season after being placed on the PUP list.

Baltimore leaned on Mike Davis, Justice Hill and Tyler Badie in the preseason.

Derwin James, Chargers Agree To Four-Year, $76.4M Extension

Aug 17, 2022 2:51 PM

Derwin James and the Los Angeles Chargers have agreed to a four-year, $76.4 million contract extension.

The deal has an average annual value of $19.13 million and resets the safety market, making James the highest-paid safety in NFL history.

James agreed to the deal one day after Chargers coach Brandon Staley described the star safety as an "impact player" and the "heartbeat of our defense."

"When I see him, I'm like, 'That's a defensive back,' because he can play anywhere," Staley said Tuesday. "He can play either safety spot, he can play corner. ... He can rush the quarterback and make an impact as a blitzer, he can make an impact in man-to-man coverage, and then he can make an impact in zone defense, whether he's playing low or high -- and he's our signal-caller and the heartbeat of our defense."
