Chiefs Sign Matt Araiza After Punter Dropped From Lawsuit

The Chiefs signed punter Matt Araiza, who was dismissed in December from a lawsuit alleging the rape of a 17-year-old girl in 2021.

"We are grateful to Brett Veach, coach Reid and the @Chiefs organization for giving Matt this opportunity," agent Joe Linta wrote on X.

Tommy Townsend, the Chiefs' punter in each of the past four seasons, is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent next month. Townsend was first-team All-Pro and selected for the Pro Bowl in 2022.

Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer has hired Nick Sheridan as offensive coordinator and JaMarcus Shephard as co-offensive coordinator.

DeBoer announced the hirings on Tuesday. Sheridan replaces Ryan Grubb, who had planned to follow DeBoer from Washington to Alabama but instead was hired as offensive coordinator of the NFL's Seattle Seahawks.

The Cowboys reached agreement Monday with Mike Zimmer to make the former Minnesota Vikings coach Dallas' new defensive coordinator.

"I'm excited and honored to be back with a great organization," Zimmer told ESPN's Ed Werder. "I'm thrilled to work with Mike McCarthy, for whom I have had a ton of respect in our NFC North days, and to do anything I can do to help the Joneses and the Cowboys."

Chargers Hire NaVorro Bowman As Linebackers Coach

The Chargers have hired former All-Pro linebacker NaVorro Bowman as the team's linebackers coach, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Saturday.

Bowman played under new Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh for four seasons when he coached the San Francisco 49ers from 2011 to 2014. Bowman was an All-Pro in each season with Harbaugh.

Seahawks Hiring Ryan Grubb As Offensive Coordinator

The Seattle Seahawks are hiring former University of Washington offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb to the same position on new coach Mike Macdonald's staff, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter and Pete Thamel on Friday.

Grubb had accepted the Alabama offensive coordinator job after spending the past two seasons at UW under former Huskies and current Tide coach Kalen DeBoer, coordinating a pass-heavy offense that ranked sixth in FBS in yards per game (487.0) and sixth in scoring (36.7) in that span.
