Eagles' A.J. Brown Says He Has No Beef With Jalen Hurts

Sep 22, 2023 7:53 AM

A.J. Brown acknowledged his "emotions were high" during the Philadelphia Eagles' victory against the Minnesota Vikings last week, but said his animated sideline interaction with Jalen Hurts was not indicative of an issue between the two players.

"The little sideline discussion, I want you all to know that's what it was -- it was a discussion," Brown said. "This is a game that we both love, and I want everybody to understand that sometimes emotions run high. That doesn't mean it's the end of the world. That doesn't mean I'm beefing with Jalen."

Television cameras showed an exchange between Brown and Hurts at the start of the fourth quarter. Nick Sirianni interjected and had a word with Brown as Hurts walked away.

Hurts proceeded to target Brown three times on the following series, including on a 25-yard touchdown pass that was nullified by a penalty.

Multiple teammates suggested afterward that the root of Brown's frustration was wanting to be more involved in the offense. Brown, though, said the conversation wasn't about targets but instead about something that happened earlier in the game.

"I know everybody took that out of context, but it's not a big deal, me and him are still on the same page, we're still growing, we're still trying to become great and get wins most importantly," Brown said.

Jalen Hurts On A.J. Brown: 'Everybody Wants To Contribute'

Sep 15, 2023 9:07 AM

Jalen Hurts says a heated conversation between himself and A.J. Brown on the sideline during the Philadelphia Eagles' victory over the Minnesota Vikings was about the wide receiver wanting to be more involved in the offense.

Brown, who finished with four catches for 29 yards on six targets, left Lincoln Financial Field without speaking to reporters.

"I think everybody wants to make plays and everybody wants to contribute," Hurts said. "I have no worry about him. He's a great player, a great teammate, a great friend, and we'll do anything and everything to win."

Television cameras showed an animated exchange between Brown and Hurts at the start of the fourth quarter. Nick Sirianni interjected and had a word with Brown as Hurts walked away.

Hurts proceeded to target Brown three times on the following series, including on a 25-yard touchdown pass that was nullified by a penalty.

"That's part of being a competitor, man. You always want to feel you're a part of the team, helping the team and things like that," said DeVonta Smith, who led the way with four catches for 131 yards and a touchdown in the 34-28 victory. "Anytime something like that is going on, it's not anything bad. He's not bashing nobody. He just wants to feel part of the team, wants to help us."

Eagles Are 'Mindful' Of Getting Dallas Goedert, D'Andre Swift Touches

Sep 13, 2023 8:18 AM

The Philadelphia Eagles may shift their offensive plan in the wake of Sunday's 25-20 win over the New England Patriots.

D'Andre Swift and Dallas Goedert had just two combined touches in the season opener.

"Fortunately for us we have some excellent skill position players who are all very deserving of a bunch of touches and can make game-changing plays when they get the ball in their hand," new offensive coordinator Brian Johnson said.

"It's up to us to really, really, like you said, just be mindful of that and try to get those guys going within the flow of the game."

Swift, an offseason addition, had just one carry for 3 yards to go along with one catch on two targets for zero yards.

Goedert didn't record a single catch for the first time since Week 3 of the 2019 season. He was targeted just once.

Eagles Will Re-Evaluate Preseason Plan After Slow Start

Sep 11, 2023 9:33 AM

Nick Sirianni expressed some regret over not playing Jalen Hurts and the offensive starters during the preseason after Sunday's sluggish performance against the New England Patriots.

The Philadelphia Eagles escaped Foxboro with a narrow 25-20 victory in Week 1.

"I'll definitely re-evaluate some of the preseason stuff next year," he said. "Maybe I should have played [Hurts] a series or two this preseason, and I already wrote that in my notes.

"You know, second thought, if I had to do it over again right now, I would say, yeah, I would have played starters one or two drives in the preseason."

The Eagles went three-and-out on four straight possessions in the first half. Last season, the Eagles only had one game with four three-and-outs: their Week 17 loss to the New Orleans Saints with Gardner Minshew at quarterback.

Philadelphia managed just one touchdown drive, tied for the fewest in any Hurts start.

"Winning is the only thing that matters," Hurts said. "I think we obviously have things that we need to work on and have to be better in those situations when the ball is in my hands, and I take full accountability for that. But good thing about it is we get the opportunity to play on Thursday [against the Minnesota Vikings]."
