Pennington Decides On Surgery

Oct 23, 2014 2:10 PM

Chad Pennington has elected to undergo a third surgery to his right shoulder to repair a torn capsule, sources said. When he travels Friday to Birmingham, Ala., Dr. James Andrews will perform the procedure. Andrews has performed each of the other two surgeries on Pennington's shoulder in 2004 and 2005. The capsule is a sheet of tough fibers and fluid that surround the shoulder joint and hold the joint in place.

Pennington Likely Done For 2009 With Torn Shoulder

Oct 31, 2014 10:33 AM

Chad Pennington has been initially diagnosed with a torn capsule in his throwing shoulder and the Dolphins expect him to miss the rest of the season, sources familiar with the injury told ESPN's Chris Mortensen. Pennington will seek a second opinion from orthopedic specialist Dr. James Andrews, who has performed two shoulder surgeries on the quarterback. Pennington has already had surgery on the same shoulder in 2004 and 2005. Chad Henne, who went 10 for 19 for 92 yards with an interception, will likely make his first NFL start Sunday when the winless Dolphins play host to Buffalo. "We're going to have to go out there with Henne, who is a lot less experienced," tight end Anthony Fasano said. "There is definitely going to be a learning curve for Henne. He can learn as much as he wants in a classroom, but until he's out on the field, in-game experience he's not going to learn. "But we have a lot of faith in Chad. He's a smart guy, a great leader and fun to play with. We're just going to have to move on."

Ricky Williams Inks Extension With Dolphins

Oct 31, 2014 9:16 PM

Ricky Williams has signed an extension with the Dolphins through the 2010 season. Williams, 32, is scheduled to earn a base salary of $3.4 million this season and $4.35 million in 2010, according to ESPN. "There's very strong feelings about Ricky and what he's done for us -- and certainly for me -- since he's been here," Dolphins coach Tony Sparano told The Miami Herald. "From what he brings from a work-ethic standpoint, as a pro in the meeting rooms, he's a good ambassador of our message to the younger players." Williams plans to retire after the 2010 season.
