Wilford Adjusting To Tight End Role

Oct 3, 2014 4:16 AM

The Dolphins are shifting wide receiver Ernest Wilford to tight end, an adjustment he has found "interesting." Wilford had just three receptions last season in Miami, and is hoping to catch on with the team as a jack of all trades. "It's been interesting," Wilford said. "Defenses don't know if they're going to play me at receiver or tight end. It will create mismatches. I've got to know what I'm doing in protections and the running game. That's the biggest transition. Anything that will help me be a value to this team, I'm willing to do. I'm very confident." The Dolphins initially considered releasing Wilford just a year after giving him a four-year, $13 million deal, but that would have cost more against the cap. Wilford is "trying to gain a little more weight" to play tight end.
