Indy Going For 2011 Super Bowl

Sep 15, 2014 9:17 PM

Super Bowl committee officials are putting the finishing touches on the biggest sweepstakes in Indianapolis history. The hard part is making sure they hold the winning ticket. Bid committee spokesman Bob Schultz said March 30 the group will spend this weekend finalizing details and ensuring that NFL requirements are met when the three-binder proposal is delivered to the league office. "It will be hand-delivered Monday," Schultz said. Details of the proposal for the 2011 game were being kept quiet to prevent other cities from getting a competitive advantage, Deputy Mayor Steve Campbell said.

Peyton Pokes Fun At His Mother During

Oct 22, 2014 4:01 PM

Colts QB Peyton Manning used his "Saturday Night Live" monologue to poke a little fun at his mother. With his immediate family in the audience, the Super Bowl MVP introduced his father, Archie, who was a star quarterback, saying "he taught me everything I know." He then introduced his brother, Eli -- the Giants starting QB -- before asking his mother, Olivia, to stand up during the live television broadcast on NBC. "She never made it to the NFL," Manning said, feigning disgust. "Didn't have what it took. Got cut by the Dolphins, tried Canada for a bit. She's a real disappointment for all of us." The cameras then switched to the Manning clan sitting in their seats, laughing.

Dungy's Support Of Proposed Gay-Marriage Ban Sparks Discussion

Oct 23, 2014 1:14 AM

Tony Dungy is a deeply religious man who puts his faith first in his life, even above family and football. So his support of a proposed gay-marriage ban likely surprised few. What was surprising is the Colts' quiet coach shared his position publicly, sparking discussion about the impact of the Super Bowl winner's comments. Dungy caused a stir Tuesday when he accepted the "Friend of Family" award from the conservative Indiana Family Institute. The coach told the audience he supported the group's efforts to amend the Indiana constitution to define marriage as between one man and one woman.

May 31, 2014 7:03 PM

Thanks to Peyton Manning's first Super Bowl title and his MVP performance, the last month has been anything but typical for the Colts quarterback. "Everything's been condensed a little bit, but that's good," Manning said Wednesday in a phone interview from Dallas. "It's a lot more fun working to find vacation time than figuring out a way to win the Super Bowl."
