Colts Decline To Match Saints' Offer Sheet To David

May 18, 2014 7:57 AM

The defending champions have lost both of their starting cornerbacks. The Colts on Thursday declined to match the four-year, $16.5 million offer sheet that Jason David signed with the Saints last week. Since David was a restricted free agent who was tendered a contract, the Colts will receive a fourth-round pick as compensation in this weekend's NFL draft.

President Bush Pokes Fun At Manning

Oct 7, 2014 6:45 PM

Even when football season ends, quarterback Peyton Manning is hard to miss on TV. He has become such a marketable pitchman that his commercials -- a sports drink here, a credit card company there -- seem endless. Apparently, President Bush has taken notice while flipping the channels. "So a lot of people here in the White House compound have been really looking forward to seeing Peyton Manning," Bush said Monday on the South Lawn. "They wanted to see a guy who gets more air time than I do." The good-natured poke came as Bush welcomed another championship team to the White House: The Indianapolis Colts.

David signed a four-year offer sheet with New Orleans on Thursday, a deal agent Cary Fabrikant said would change David's life. "Right now, Jason is in a great situation," Fabrikant said Friday. "The Colts could be in a great situation and the Saints are in the same situation." It all depends on what the Colts decide.

Stokley On The Mend From Achilles' Injury

Sep 8, 2014 11:00 AM

The red vertical scar peeked through the top of Brandon Stokley's sock. The former Colts receiver unintentionally glanced in the scar's direction whenever he referenced it. Stokley ruptured his right Achilles' tendon on Dec. 10 at Jacksonville, and had season-ending surgery. The injury, which occurred while he was with the Colts, almost drove him away from football. But he didn't want to wrap up his career like that and so he signed a one-year deal with Denver in the offseason. "A lot of teams were really scared of the Achilles," Stokley said.

Freeney Negotiations At A Stand Still

Sep 25, 2014 2:44 PM

The Colts' negotiations on a contract extension with defensive end Dwight Freeney are ice-cold. "Right now, they're frozen," team president Bill Polian said. "We made an offer prior to free agency and the agent chose not to respond to it. We're presuming he'll play the season with the tag. There is still time to get a deal done, the deadline is July 15, so we'll just have to wait and see what happens." Freeney was assigned the franchise tag, which would pay him more than $9.4 million on a one-year deal should he sign.
