Matt Ryan Officially Retires With Falcons

Apr 23, 2024 8:20 AM

Matt Ryan has formally retired after 15 seasons as an NFL quarterback.

Ryan made the announcement in a video statement posted to social media by the Atlanta Falcons.

"So today, 16 years after being drafted, my childhood dream has officially come to an end. I'm honored to retire as a Falcon," he said.

He added, "You have no control in this profession in where you start. I am so lucky that my start and my finish was here in Atlanta."

Ryan, 38, started all 234 games he played during his career, including every game for the Falcons from 2010 until Oct. 27, 2019. In all, he missed just three games in Atlanta, where he became the team's all-time leader in almost every passing category. He finished his career with the Indianapolis Colts.

Ryan was an in-game analyst for CBS Sports last season.

Jim Irsay Won't Be In Colts Draft Room Amid Recovery

Apr 23, 2024 8:13 AM

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay won't be in the team's draft room this week as he recovers from what authorities described as a suspected overdose and other health issues.

Irsay told ESPN that his current challenge is rehabilitating from major surgery on his lower back area that has severely limited his mobility. He said he'll still have a presence, adding that the team's affairs are running per usual despite his physical absence.

"The main thing is I'm just following my doctors' orders and just making sure the bottom line is just to get back to 100% and to do the things they say," said Irsay, who has undergone numerous surgeries on his back, hips and extremities from years-old powerlifting injuries. "I'm just being a good patient and trying to make sure I can get back sooner than later. I'll get back on the golf course sooner than later.

"It's going fine. It's just a test of patience."

Irsay was hospitalized on Dec. 8 after emergency responders were called to his home because he was found unresponsive.

Apr 15, 2024 11:34 AM

DeForest Buckner has agreed to a two-year extension with the Indianapolis Colts worth $46 million.

Buckner was entering the final year of a four-year, $84 million contract signed after joining the Colts in a trade from the San Francisco 49ers in 2020, when he was a first-team All-Pro selection.

For the 30-year-old Buckner, the $23 million average annual value in his new deal ranks fifth among defensive tackles, behind Kansas City's Chris Jones (31.75 million), Las Vegas' Christian Wilkins ($27.5 million), Baltimore's Justin Madubuike ($24.5 million) and Carolina's Derrick Brown ($24 million).
