Simon Status Still Uncertain

Jun 10, 2014 3:46 AM

Uncertainty continues to follow Corey Simon. Although the veteran defensive tackle told The Star on Friday he planned to report with the rest of his teammates, he was not seen on campus. The Colts did not comment on Simon, and a team spokesman said all personnel matters would be addressed today. Reached on his cell phone Sunday, Simon declined to shed any light on his situation. "I'm not in a position to comment at this time,'' he said, refusing to reveal his whereabouts.

Colts' Simon Plans To Report

Aug 3, 2014 6:53 PM

Corey Simon plans to be on hand Sunday in Terre Haute when the Indianapolis Colts open training camp. What happens next is anyone's guess. "My plans are to report on Sunday,'' Simon said in a brief telephone interview Friday. Asked about his expectations, the defensive tackle replied, "I don't have any comment at this point. I'm just going to report and go from there.'' Simon's status with the team has been uncertain since he missed the Colts' Super Bowl season with a knee injury and an undisclosed illness, reportedly polyarthritis. The team placed him on the NFL's non-football illness/injury list in October.

Official: Colts' Tarik Glenn Retires

Aug 3, 2014 3:57 AM

Peyton Manning could see more trouble from his blind side than he is used to this season after longtime Colts left tackle Tarik Glenn announced his retirement Tuesday. Glenn, a 10-year veteran and the starting left tackle since 1998, announced his decision at a press conference at the team's practice facility. The decision comes just five days before the Colts are scheduled to start training camp and comes after a season in which the team won the Super Bowl.

Colts Await Official Word From Glenn

May 21, 2014 7:02 PM

The Indianapolis Colts won't pressure Tarik Glenn into making an official announcement regarding his retirement, or lobby him to return for an 11th season, president Bill Polian said. But Polian told the left offensive tackle the situation needs to be resolved before the team reports to training camp in Terre Haute this weekend. "I can only tell you he's clearly thinking this over,'' Polian said Monday. "I think he's weighing the pros and cons. "I've told him when he's ready, obviously sometime before Saturday, let us know and we'll talk it through.'' People close to Glenn told The Star that he has decided to retire rather than report to camp with his teammates Sunday. Repeated attempts to contact Glenn have been unsuccessful.

Colts' Green Plans To Retire

May 21, 2014 3:36 PM

Offensive tackle Tarik Glenn will not be back to help the Indianapolis Colts defend their Super Bowl title, according to several people close to the 10-year veteran, choosing instead to retire. None of Glenn's teammates would confirm the decision publicly, and repeated attempts to reach Glenn were unsuccessful. When asked to comment on his client's decision, agent Ralph Cindrich said any response would have to come from Glenn. Colts coach Tony Dungy said earlier this week he recently talked with Glenn but would not divulge the nature of the discussions. "Probably the best person to speak to on that is him," Dungy said. Barring a change of heart by Glenn, 31, the Colts will report to training camp July 29 without their second-longest tenured player, and one who has appeared in the past three Pro Bowls. The Colts selected Glenn with the 19th overall pick in the 1997 draft. Only Marvin Harrison, the team's 1996 first-round draft pick, has been around longer.

Colts Activate Simon, But Reason Uncertain

Apr 13, 2014 5:38 AM

Defensive tackle Corey Simon was activated from the physically unable to perform list by the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday. No one was more surprised than Simon. "This is the first I've heard of it," Simon said when reached by phone. "It's news to me." What the Colts intend was unclear. Simon refused to discuss the possibilities and club president Bill Polian, the team's spokesman on player issues, did not immediately respond to an interview request. The activation could be a procedural step in the process of terminating the seven-year veteran's contract. In two years since signing with the Colts, Simon has been paid more than $14 million in bonuses and salary but played only 13 regular-season games.

Dungy Hits Road To Promote Memoir

Oct 16, 2014 4:17 AM

Colts coach Tony Dungy said some football fans may be surprised that his memoir "Quiet Strength," which hits stores Tuesday, goes beyond Super Bowl tales and delves into his Christian faith. Dungy, who began a 10-day national tour Monday to promote the book, said he penned his 301-page memoir after initial reluctance once he realized it was a chance for him to let others know how his faith has helped him overcome personal tragedy and career setbacks. He said initial response to the memoir has been positive, but he expects it holds more about his life off the field and his religious beliefs than some people might have expected.
