May 2011 - Houston Texans Wiretap
Delhomme Joins Texans
The Texans have agreed to terms on a contract with retired quarterback Jake Delhomme, according to a league source.
Houston worked out both Delhomme and veteran Jeff Garcia on Tuesday following the season-ending injury to Matt Leinart.
Garcia worked out for the team following starter Matt Schaub's season-ending foot injury last week, but Houston decided to sign Kellen Clemens instead.
Delhomme Will Work Out For Houston
Badly in need of a quarterback, the Texans will work out veteran free-agent Jake Delhomme on Tuesday.
Delhomme, a 36-year-old who has thrown for 20,764 yards and 125 yards with 101 interceptions in 10 NFL seasons, played for the Browns in 2010.
Texans coach Gary Kubiak said Monday the team would sign another quarterback, but he maintained he plans to move forward with rookie T.J. Yates and veteran Kellen Clemens at the position.
Dolphins Plan To Keep Rosenfels, Preventing Reunion With Texans
The Dolphins don't intend to release quarterback Sage Rosenfels from injured reserve at this point, according to sources.
Reports indicated that Miami would release Rosenfels, who then would join the Texans, but the Dolphins plan to hold on to the veteran quarterback at this time, despite the undisclosed illness that landed him on IR.
The Texans are in the market for a quarterback after Matt Leinart was knocked out of Sunday's game against the Jaguars with a collarbone injury.
The Texans already lost Matt Schaub for the season to a right foot injury.
Daunte Culpepper Still Waiting For Call
Daunte Culpepper is still waiting for a call from an NFL team to resume his football career.
The Texans may become an option after the season-ending injury suffered by Matt Leinart on Sunday. He was making his first start in place of Matt Schaub (foot).
"I have been preparing all summer and have continued to work out six days a week throughout this season, waiting for an opportunity to show a team that I am ready, willing and able to contribute where I am needed," Culpepper told Pro Football Talk.
'Strong Possibility' Leinart Done For Season
Texans quarterback Matt Leinart, making his first start of the season in place of the injured Matt Schaub, hurt his throwing shoulder Sunday at Jacksonville.
Leinart believes he broke his collarbone, but coach Gary Kubiak said initial X-rays were inconclusive.
"There's a pretty strong possibility I probably won't be coming back this season," Leinart said.
"It's pretty disappointing. It's tough to swallow, but we'll just move forward. Everything that's happened to me, this was a great opportunity. ... It's unfortunate, but I'm not going to give up. It's not my nature. I'll just keep moving forward and figure this thing out one step at a time."
Leinart Knocked Out With Shoulder Injury
Texans quarterback Matt Leinart left Sunday's game at Jacksonville with a left shoulder injury and will not return.
Leinart was hit hard by defensive end Jeremy Mincey late in the second quarter.
T.J. Yates replaced him.
Leinart was making his first start in two years after replacing Matt Schaub, who is out for the season with a foot injury.
He completed 10 of 13 passes for 57 yards and a touchdown.
Andre Johnson To Face Jacksonville
The Texans will have wide receiver Andre Johnson back for their game against the Jaguars on Sunday.
Johnson has been out for six games with a hamstring injury.
Haynesworth Makes Controversial Comment On Schub Injury
Albert Haynesworth was unapologetic in regards to his hit on Matt Schaub that ended his 2011 season.
“You know me. I love to hit Schaub,” Haynesworth said. “It was on the goal line. He actually screamed like normal in the pile.”
Texans Put Schaub On IR; Sign Clemens
The Texans placed quarterback Matt Schaub on injured reserve Wednesday and signed Kellen Clemens to take his roster spot.
Schaub sustained a right foot injury during Houston's 37-9 win over Tampa Bay on Nov. 13.
Matt Leinart will be the team's starting quarterback going forward.
Schaub met with several doctors, who determined he'll need season-ending surgery on the Lisfranc injury.
Garcia, Edwards, Croyle, Clemens Audition For Texans
Jeff Garcia, Trent Edwards, Brodie Croyle and Kellen Clemens worked out for the Texans on Monday.
The team will sign one of the players if Matt Schaub is indeed out for the season with a Lisfranc tendon injury in his right foot.
Matt Leinart started for Houston on Sunday.
Schaub Wants To Return, But It's 'Not Looking Good'
Texans quarterback Matt Schaub hopes he can return this season from a foot injury, though he acknowledges "it doesn't look good."
