DK Metcalf is signing a three-year, $72 million contract extension with the Seattle Seahawks, according to a source.

Metcalf will receive $58.2 million in guaranteed money and a $30 million signing bonus, the largest ever for a receiver.

He reported with the rest of the team Tuesday, then did not take part in any portion of Wednesday's first practice amid the contract negotiations.

K.J. Wright is signing a ceremonial one-day contract to retire as a member of the Seattle Seahawks.

The linebacker played 11 seasons in the NFL, including 10 as a starting linebacker for the Seahawks. Wright played for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2021.

Chris Carson plans to retire after five NFL seasons because of a neck injury, a source has confirmed.

The Seattle Seahawks have released Carson with a failed physical designation.

"Ever since the first time I saw Chris on film, I loved his style, and I was thrilled when we were able to get him when we did," Pete Carroll said. "To see him grow and become such an impacting part of our program with such a great style and all of that, it was a thrill to watch. We'll miss him and everything he brought to our program."

The Seahawks have been preparing to proceed without Carson, re-signing Rashaad Penny in March before drafting Kenneth Walker III in the second round.

The Seattle Seahawks have held internal discussions about the possibility of adding Jimmy Garoppolo, according to a report.

Garoppolo's future with the San Francisco 49ers remains unclear as he continues to rehab his shoulder.

Jody Allen, the de facto owner of the Seattle Seahawks and NBA's Portland Trail Blazers, said in a statement that the teams are not currently for sale but eventually will be.

Jody Allen has been the trustee of the Paul G. Allen Trust since her brother, the Microsoft co-founder, died in 2018.

"As chair of both the Portland Trail Blazers and the Seattle Seahawks, my long-term focus is building championship teams that our communities are proud of," Allen's statement read. "Like my brother Paul, I trust and expect our leaders and coaches to build winning teams that deliver results on and off the court and field.

"As we've stated before, neither of the teams is for sale and there are no sales discussions happening.

"A time will come when that changes given Paul's plans to dedicate the vast majority of his wealth to philanthropy, but estates of this size and complexity can take 10 to 20 years to wind down. There is no pre-ordained timeline by which the teams must be sold.

"Until then, my focus -- and that of our teams -- is on winning."
