Mike Tomlin Not Ready To Make Changes To Pittsburgh's Offense

Oct 26, 2022 8:58 AM

The Pittsburgh Steelers have struggled offensively this season, ranking 31st with 15.3 points per game.

The quarterback change from Mitchell Trubisky to Kenny Pickett hasn't jumpstarted the offense, but Mike Tomlin says he's not yet ready to make further changes.

"I don't feel like I'm there," Tomlin said of offensive changes.

The Steelers have a bye after this Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Mitch Trubisky Was Benched In Week 4 After Clash With Diontae Johnson

Oct 18, 2022 9:26 AM

The Pittsburgh Steelers benched Mitch Trubisky at halftime of Week 4's loss to the New York Jets at least in part because of a locker room confrontation with Diontae Johnson, according to a report.

It had been believed that Trubisky was benched in favor of rookie Kenny Pickett because of poor play.

According to the report, Johnson was yelling at Trubisky over his lack of targets. Trubisky fired right back at Johnson and that's when Pickett was told he'd be the starter for the second half.

Pickett started in Week 5 and 6, but Trubisky was forced into action this past Sunday after the rookie suffered a concussion.

Todd Bowles: 'Guys Living Off Super Bowl In Fantasy Land'

Oct 16, 2022 11:12 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles didn't mince words after his team fell to 3-3 after a 20-18 road loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, who had dropped four straight prior to Sunday and were led by a rookie quarterback in Kenny Pickett.

"We didn't take them lightly, No. 1. No. 2, I think guys that are living off the Super Bowl are living in a fantasy land," Bowles said. "You've gotta get your hands dirty and go to work like everybody else. We've been working hard and we've gotta work harder. Nobody's gonna give us anything. Nobody's gonna feel sorry. We've gotta go back as coaches, as players -- the time for talking is over. You either gotta put up or shut up."

Mike Tomlin Open To More Changes After Blowout Loss

Oct 10, 2022 9:03 AM

The Pittsburgh Steelers suffered their worst loss of Mike Tomlin's 16-year tenure as head coach on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.

The Steelers were down 31-3 at halftime and lost 38-3. It was the franchise's worst defeat since Week 1 of the 1989 season, when they fell to the Cleveland Browns 51-0.

"Was I satisfied with the effort? We just got smashed," Tomlin said in his near seven-minute press conference. "Like, what are we talking about here guys?"

Tomlin said that he is "absolutely" willing to make more personnel changes after replacing Mitch Trubisky with Kenny Pickett this past week.

"You play like we played today, you've got to be open to doing whatever is required to change the outcome of these games." Tomlin said. "And so that's a given. ... I think everyone understands where we are and what transpired today, and it is not cool. So you can draw whatever conclusions you want to draw from it. That's just the realities of our business at this level."

T.J. Watt's Return Delayed Due To Knee Surgery

Oct 9, 2022 12:23 AM

T.J. Watt recently underwent arthroscopic knee surgery that is expected to delay his return to the Steelers, sources told ESPN.

Watt, who already was recovering from a torn pectoral muscle, had the knee surgery to clean up a preseason injury that lingered into the regular season. The pass-rusher initially was expected to miss six weeks because of the pectoral injury suffered in Pittsburgh's opener, setting up a potential return Oct. 30 against the Eagles.

But the knee surgery likely will push back Watt's return by at least another week or two, according to sources.

Report: Steelers Will Stick With Kenny Pickett At QB

Oct 4, 2022 10:36 AM

Mike Tomlin hasn't committed to a quarterback going forward, but the Pittsburgh Steelers will reportedly stick with Kenny Pickett for the remainder of 2022.

Pickett replaced Mitch Trubisky at halftime of Week 4's loss to the New York Jets. He's expected to make his first career start this weekend against the Buffalo Bills.

Tomlin said after Sunday's game that he pulled Trubisky because the offense needed a "spark."

Drafted 20th overall out of Pitt, the 24-year-old Pickett went 10 of 13 against the Jets, throwing three interceptions but rushing for two touchdowns.

Kenny Pickett Debuts For Steelers But Job Isn't His Yet

Oct 3, 2022 8:50 AM

The Pittsburgh Steelers turned to Kenny Pickett at halftime of Sunday's loss to the New York Jets, but Mike Tomlin isn't yet ready to anoint him the team's starting quarterback.

Pickett sparked the Steelers in the third quarter before throwing two interceptions in the final four minutes of the game. Mitch Trubisky has struggled to lead the offense in 3 1/2 games.

"I'm not going to talk extended as we sit here," Mike Tomlin said. "We did what we needed to do to put ourselves in position to win the game. We'll do it again. But I'd like to just keep it where we were in terms of what transpire here today. We'll deal with next week, next week."

Tomlin said he made the switch because "we needed a spark. We didn't do much in the first half, not enough offensively, and thought he could provide a spark for us."
