Palmer: "I Hate The Steelers"

Oct 7, 2014 1:26 PM

Carson Palmer is training hard to return to the field in time for the Bengals' Sept. 10 opener against Kansas City. Palmer called his knee surgeon, Dr. Lonnie Paulos, "a doctor who likes to hear himself talk and see his name in the newspaper." He also has some strong feeings for one of the Bengals' rivals. "I hate (the Steelers)," Palmer told Sports Illustrated. "I keep thinking about how much, back in college, I hated UCLA. I hate the Steelers more than I hate UCLA. Yeah, it's because I'm jealous and I want what they have. I guess I'm just not that evolved."

Porter Is Only Veteran To Miss Steelers' Voluntary Workouts

Jul 29, 2014 10:08 AM

Joey Porter missed the first week of the Steelers' voluntary workouts, and now the question is whether he will participate in any of them. Porter attended the team's mandatory three-day minicamp May 13-15 but was the only veteran absent from all four of their follow-up voluntary sessions last week. Those sessions, among 14 scheduled through June 8, resume today. His agent, Jeff Sperbeck, declined to comment yesterday on whether Porter will return to Pittsburgh to work out with his teammates or if he planned to show up for the start of training camp July 28. "The Steelers are aware of Joey's situation," Sperbeck said

Santonio Can Keep No. 10

Jun 7, 2014 4:22 PM

Steelers rookie wideout Santonio Holmes wore No. 10 during his three days at minicamp, and, if he so chooses, he can continue to wear it for the regular season. Incoming wide receivers are permitted to wear Nos. 10 through 19 and 80 through 89, according to a memo sent to NFL franchises prior to last month's draft. Time will tell whether or not Reggie Bush will be so lucky.

With The Bus Gone, The Steelers Look To Someone Else To Lead

Sep 9, 2014 5:01 PM

With Jerome Bettis now retired, the Steelers locker room has been a lot quieter. Their outgoing leader is gone and now the Steelers must look to somebody else to lead the team. Their top applicant: Ben Roethlisberger. As luck would have it, Roethlisberger is more than ready to become the next Bettis for the Steelers, the next face of the franchise. He was modest when asked if he felt any pressure in potentially assuming such a powerful role. "No pressure; I just do it because you guys (the media) want to talk to me for some reason," Roethlisberger said, grinning. "It's one of those things that's part of being the quarterback for a team -- and now you won a Super Bowl. So there's probably a couple more of you guys around here." Second-year tight end Heath Miller did not hesitate in assessing Roethlisberger's place in the franchise's pecking order. "This is Ben's team," Miller said. "Ben's earned the right to be a leader. He's well-respected from the top to the bottom of this organization. I don't know if he's going to change anything. He's just going to keep doing what he's doing. He's pretty much earned what he gets."

Out Of Prison, Bam Morris Wants To Make Comeback

Sep 5, 2014 3:48 AM

Byron "Bam" Morris wants to make an NFL comeback and would love to do so with the Super Bowl champs. "If the Steelers would want to sign me, they wouldn't have to even buy me a plane ticket to get there. I'd drive," said Morris, 34, who was released from prison in 2004. "I don't want any favors, no special treatment. I'm not asking for no hand-me-downs because I know I won't get it. "If people say, 'You don't have it,' I can live with it."

Santonio Forced To Miss Spring Workouts

Jun 7, 2014 3:52 PM

Ohio State's academic schedule will require Santonio Holmes to miss three valuable weeks of NFL indoctrination, forcing him to play catch-up when training camp starts in late July. Because of an NFL-NCAA agreement, a college player cannot take part in NFL spring workouts until his college has had its graduation. Because many schools hold graduation in early May, most NFL draft picks are not affected. But Holmes can't begin practicing until after the university's mid-June graduation. By then, the Steelers will have finished the 14 days of coaching sessions that follow their May 13-15 minicamp, which Holmes is permitted to attend. "I'll probably just train back in Columbus with a bunch of my teammates before they leave," Holmes said Monday. "I'll get ready from there."

Steelers Tried To Deal For Duckett

Oct 23, 2014 7:25 PM

The Atlanta Falcons, after reportedly fielding several offers for T.J. Duckett, are holding on to the 6-foot, 254-pound battering ram of a running back known as "The Diesel." At least for the time being. The Falcons may be more willing to move Duckett, a first-round pick out of Michigan State in 2002, once they get a look at third-round pick Jerious Norwood, a running back from Mississippi State, in their mini-camp. Should Norwood give indications he can complement Warrick Dunn in 2006, Atlanta's asking price for Duckett could come down. The Steelers were one of the teams that made an offer for Duckett on Sunday.
