Belichick On Deflategate: We're On To Next Year

May 29, 2015 2:15 PM

Bill Belichick made his first public comments since the NFL punished Tom Brady and the New England Patriots for Deflategate.

"That's a long time ago," Belichick said when asked if the issue has affected any of the team's enjoyment from winning the Super Bowl. "We're on to next year. It's 2015. You can forget about last year. That was last year."

Belichick's remarks came Friday after the team's organized team activity at Gillette Stadium, where quarterback Tom Brady -- who has been suspended for the first four games -- participated and took his standard repetitions for a spring practice.

Darrelle Revis: Patriots Have History Of 'Doing Stuff'

May 21, 2015 1:32 PM

Darrelle Revis was critical of the New England Patriots' history with circumventing rules just months after winning a Super Bowl with the franchise.

"Everybody's blowing it up because it is Tom Brady," Revis told the Daily News Wednesday in his first extended comments on the Deflategate fallout. "I understand that. But if (the NFL) feels he did the crime or he did something and they want to penalize them, then that's that. (The Patriots) have a history of doing stuff. You can't hide that.… Tom was there when they did that stuff in the past."

Revis made it clear he was unaware of any wrongdoing by Brady.

"New England's been doing stuff in the past and getting in trouble," Revis said. "When stuff repeatedly happens, then that's it. I don't know what else to tell you. Stuff repeatedly happened through the years. You got SpyGate, you got this and that and everything else. Obviously in those situations in the past, they had the evidence. So they did what they needed to do."

Patriots Won't Appeal NFL's Punishment For Deflategate

May 19, 2015 3:02 PM

The New England Patriots will not appeal their punishment from the NFL for Deflategate.

The Patriots received a $1 million fine and the loss of a first-round pick in 2016 and a fourth-round selection in 2017.

"Although I might disagree with what is decided, I do have respect for the commissioner and believe that he's doing what he perceives to be in the best interest of the full 32," Robert Kraft said during a six-minute address to reporters. "So in that spirit I don't want to continue the rhetoric that's gone on for the past four months. I'm going to accept, reluctantly, what he has given to us and not continue this dialogue and rhetoric and we won't appeal."

Kraft remains clear that he supports the appeal of Tom Brady.

Brandon Spikes Returns To Patriots On One-Year Deal

May 18, 2015 11:28 AM

The New England Patriots have re-signed Brandon Spikes to a one-year deal.

Spikes played for the Patriots from 2010 to 2013 before signing a one-year deal with the Bills in 2014. His departure from New England included some fireworks, as he was placed on season-ending injured reserve in the playoffs and questioned the team's decision to do so.

ESPN NFL Insider Chris Mortensen had reported that the Patriots and Spikes mutually agreed to the IR designation as opposed to an outright release after the linebacker was late to a team meeting that week. That essentially ended any chance Spikes would return in 2014, with the hard-hitting outspoken linebacker saying he was happy to move on to "somewhere you're wanted."

NFLPA Appeals Tom Brady's Suspension

May 14, 2015 8:49 PM

The NFL Players Association filed an appeal of Tom Brady's four-game suspension Thursday.

Brady was suspended without pay by the NFL on Monday for the first four games of the 2015 season stemming from his role in Deflategate.

"Given the NFL's history of inconsistency and arbitrary decisions in disciplinary matters, it is only fair that a neutral arbitrator hear this appeal," the union said in a release. "If Ted Wells and the NFL believe, as their public comments stated, that the evidence in their report is 'direct' and 'inculpatory,' then they should be confident enough to present their case before someone who is truly independent."

Brady's agent said Monday that he would appeal the suspension. The deadline to appeal was the end of the day Thursday. The Patriots, who were fined $1 million and lost two draft picks, have until May 21 to file an appeal of their penalties to the NFL.

Patriots Issue 20,000 Word Rebuttal To Wells Report

May 15, 2015 10:34 PM

The New England Patriots have issued a rebuttal to the Wells Report in regards to deflated footballs.

The team sent out a link to TheWellsReportContext.com, a site which exhaustively attempts to point out inconsistencies in Ted Wells' 243 pages of findings on Brady. The Wells Report concluded it was "more probable than not that Brady "at least generally aware of the inappropriate activities" regarding the deflation of Patriots game balls used in the AFC Championship.

The website released by the Patriots has nearly 20,000 words of rebuttal.

Owners Waiting 'Nervously' To See What Kraft Does With Goodell

May 11, 2015 10:22 PM

For much or Roger Goodell's tenure as commissioner of the NFL, his closest ally has been Robert Kraft.

The relationship between Goodell and Kraft is undoubtedly compromised in the wake of deflategate.

One owner who knows both Goodell and Kraft well said he believes their relationship is "pretty much dead."

"Some of us (owners) are waiting a little nervously to see what Robert does next," said the owner.

Kraft: Tom Brady Has Our Unconditional Support

May 11, 2015 9:01 PM

Robert Kraft released the following statement in response to penalties given to the New England Patriots by the NFL for deflategate.

“Despite our conviction that there was no tampering with footballs, it was our intention to accept any discipline levied by the league. Today’s punishment, however, far exceeded any reasonable expectation. It was based completely on circumstantial rather than hard or conclusive evidence.

“We are humbled by the support the New England Patriots have received from our fans throughout the world. We recognize our fans’ concerns regarding the NFL’s penalties and share in their disappointment in how this one-sided investigation was handled, as well as the dismissal of the scientific evidence supported by the Ideal Gas Law in the final report.

“Tom Brady has our unconditional support. Our belief in him has not wavered.”
