April 2011 - Minnesota Vikings Wiretap
Vikings Cut Rhett Bomar, Nine Others
The Vikings have waived quarterback Rhett Bomar and nine other players in their first round of roster cuts.
Bomar was a long shot to make the team after the Vikings drafted Christian Ponder in the first round in April.
He was arrested on charges of drunken driving during training camp this month.
The Vikings also waived defensive backs, Chris Adingupu and Simeon Castille, offensive lineman Conan Amituanai, tight end Ed Barham, kicker Nate Whitaker, linebacker Jonathan Gilmore, receiver Andre Holmes, linebacker Kyle O'Donnell and defensive tackle Colby Whitlock.
Peterson Unconcerned With Contract Situation
Vikings running back Adrian Peterson isn't as concerned about his next contract as some of his peers.
While Frank Gore, Chris Johnson and Matt Forte have all engaged in various forms of holdouts as they seek new deals, Peterson says he's "in the driver's seat" for his next contract.
Peterson is entering the final year of his rookie deal and is scheduled to earn $10.7 million in base salary this season.
"I'm pretty much in a good position right now, kinda in the driver's seat," Peterson told 105.3 FM 105.3 FM in Dallas.
"So I just decided that this is my last year of my contract and I'll stay faithful to it. I'll just go out and focus on doing what I can do to help this team win a championship."
Georgia RB King Will Sign With Vikings
Former Georgia running back Caleb King was not selected in Monday's supplemental draft, but he agreed to a deal with the Vikings later in the day.
King, who would have been a senior at Georgia this season, was declared academically ineligible in July.
In three seasons with the Bulldogs, he rushed for 1,271 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Rice: Vikings Didn't Even Try To Re-Sign Me
Seahawks wide receiver Sidney Rice says the Vikings never even tried to negotiate a new deal with him as a free agent.
Seattle and Minnesota will square off in a preseason game on Saturday night.
Rice signed a five-year, $41 million deal with the Seahawks.
"If you hear from them throughout the rest of the season telling you they are going to be in touch, are going to negotiate and it never happens, you've got to wonder -- do they really want me there or not?" Rice told the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
"I just didn't feel it ... It came down to Seattle showing me they wanted me to be a part of the program."
Harvin, Shiancoe To Miss Saturday's Game
Receiver Percy Harvin and tight end Visanthe Shiancoe are among the Vikings who will be held out of Saturday's preseason game at Seattle, according to an ESPN.com report.
Harvin hasn't practiced much this week because of a rib injury and Shiancoe is still working on a pulled hamstring that kept him out of the preseason opener.
Brad Childress Rips Randy Moss
Former Vikings coach Brad Childress said in an interview with NFL.com on Wednesday that he thought the team's locker room was stable enough to withstand the addition of Randy Moss. He admits he was wrong.
"We had good guys, by and large, [but Moss] walked in the locker room and vomited on it," he told the league's website.
Owner: Vikings Fans Needn't Worry About LA
Vikings owner Zygi Wilf says football fans in Minnesota shouldn't be nervous about progress by developers seeking to build a new stadium in Los Angeles.
Wilf says the Vikings "have momentum here" for a project in Arden Hills, the suburb north of Minneapolis where the team wants to put a new stadium.
The owner joined Ramsey County officials after the team's practice in Mankato on Wednesday in touting the project.
Rhett Bomar Arrested On DWI Charge
Vikings quarterback Rhett Bomar has been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.
Blue Earth County Jail spokeswoman Amber Carlson says Bomar was booked about 5:15 a.m. Sunday on third-degree driving while intoxicated. Carlson says Bomar has been released.
McNabb Joined Vikings For One-Year, $5M
The terms of Donovan McNabb's restructured contract with the Vikings have been revealed.
According to a radio report out of Minnesota, the team renegotiated the quarterback's contract to a one-year, $5.05 million deal.
McNabb has $2.2 million in incentives available to him, bringing the maximum possible value to $7.25 million.
At Least Five Teams In Running For Floyd
There are several teams interested in free-agent wide receiver Malcolm Floyd, who is nearing a decision, according to league sources.
The Chargers would like to retain Floyd, but the Ravens, Panthers, Cardinals and 49ers are among other teams also interested.
Vikings Release Bryant McKinnie
He had been Minnesota's starting left tackle since 2002.
Vikings Pay Tribute To Stringer
The Vikings have pained a big 77 on their practice field to honor Korey Stringer who died of heatstroke 10 years ago.
