Patrick Mahomes Can't Believe Eric Bieniemy Hasn't Gotten Head Job

Jan 29, 2021 8:34 AM

Patrick Mahomes assumed the Kansas City Chiefs would be losing Eric Bieniemy as his offensive coordinator after this season.

Mahomes told Dan Patrick he was shocked Bieniemy wasn't hired in the latest coaching cycle.

"It amazes me, honestly," Mahomes said. "If you look at his track record, the way he’s able to coach us, the way he’s able to lead men, to be able to lead a locker room of people from every different background, every different race, everything like that, and to be the leader of a locker room is a special talent. He’s able to do that. And the way he’s able to go about calling plays throughout the game. We have Coach Reid, and Coach Reid calls plays, but there’s a ton of input from Coach Bieniemy and he calls a ton of plays in our game plan and it gets overlooked."

Buccaneers Choose To Wear White Jerseys For Super Bowl

Jan 27, 2021 8:54 PM

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have chosen to wear their white jerseys with pewter pants for the Super Bowl despite being the designated home team.

Tom Brady has a 4-1 record while wearing white in Super Bowls, while 13 of the past 16 champions have worn white jerseys.

But the Kansas City Chiefs wore red in last year's Super bowl in over the 49ers. The Chiefs also wore red in their Super Bowl IV win over the Vikings.

Chiefs Lose Eric Fisher To Torn Achilles

Jan 25, 2021 10:44 PM

Eric Fisher will miss the Super Bowl with a torn Achilles tendon.

The Kansas City Chiefs shifted right tackle Mike Remmers to Fisher's spot after he left Sunday's game and he will likely start at left tackles for the Super Bowl.

Fisher started 15 regular-season games for the Chiefs, then both playoff games. He was named to the Pro Bowl for the second time in his career.

Chiefs Open As Consensus Favorites Over Buccaneers In Super Bowl LV

Jan 25, 2021 8:57 AM

The Kansas City Chiefs have opened as consensus 3-point favorites over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV.

The line was trending up Sunday night, with some sportsbooks moving the Chiefs to -3.5

Barring significant movement, it will be just the second time Tom Brady has been an underdog in his 10 Super Bowl appearances. In his Super Bowl debut, Brady and the New England Patriots were 14-point underdogs against the St. Louis Rams in 2002, a game the Patriots won outright.

Patrick Mahomes Cleared To Play In AFC Championship

Jan 23, 2021 8:55 PM

Patrick Mahomes has cleared the NFL's concussion protocol and will play in Sunday's AFC Championship Game.

"Talking to all of the doctors and going through all of the testing, we have the belief that I'll have no lingering effects and I'll be able to go out there and be who I am,'' Mahomes said after clearing the protocol.

"You have to take it day by day. That's the best thing. You can only control what you can control. For me, that was coming in every day with a positive attitude, try to make myself better, try to prepare myself as if I was going to play. Luckily enough, I haven't had any symptoms and I'm able to play.''

Mahomes entered the concussion protocol during last Sunday's win over the Browns.

Andy Reid: Patrick Mahomes Might've Returned Pre-Protocol

Jan 19, 2021 8:55 AM

Andy Reid doesn't know if Patrick Mahomes will clear the NFL's concussion protocol in time to play in Sunday's AFC Championship Game.

However, the Kansas City Chiefs coach indicated Mahomes might have felt well enough to have returned to Sunday's playoff game against the Cleveland Browns.

"There was a chance back in the day that Patrick comes back in [the game]," Reid said. "You saw him run up the tunnel. By the time he got to that point, he was feeling pretty good. But there's a certain protocol you have to follow and that takes it out of the trainer's hand and the player's hand and the doctor's hand."

Mahomes was replaced in the third quarter by Chad Henne, who finished the Chiefs' 22-17 win over the Browns.

The Chiefs face the Buffalo Bills on Sunday at Arrowhead in the AFC title game. Reid said they would have a plan whether Mahomes or Henne starts at quarterback.

"Because of the protocol, it's a no-brainer from a coaching standpoint,'' Reid said. "You don't have to think about it. You just have to go forward and make sure you have an answer if he's there and an answer if he's not there. I can't tell you from a medical standpoint. I don't know that. That's their decision and I just follow it.''

Texans Decline To Interview Eric Bieniemy Despite Watson's Urging

Jan 7, 2021 8:52 PM

The Houston Texans are the only team with a head coaching vacancy not to request an interview with Eric Bieniemy. Furthermore, they decided not to interview Bieniemy despite Deshaun Watson advocating for him.

Patrick Mahomes had put in a strong word for Bieniemy with Watson.

The Texans had told Watson he would be involved in the general manager and head coaching search, but he has apparently been entirely shut out.
