NFL's 32 Teams Collectively Worth $99 Billion

Aug 26, 2020 1:29 PM

The average NFL franchise is worth more than $3 billion, according to data compiled by Sportico.

The Dallas Cowboys rank first in the NFL at $6.43 billion with the Cincinnati Bengals ranking last at $2.12 billion.

The fair-market value of the NFL's 32 franchises collectively is $99 billion when considering team-related businesses and real estate held by owners.

The teams’ $15.83 billion in revenue in the last fiscal year, which represents the 2019 season, was greater than that of 298 companies on the Fortune 500. That averages to about $495 million per team.

In 2019, the Cowboys generated an estimated $871 million in revenue, which was 81% greater than the average of the other 31 teams.

Lions Cancel Practice To Protest Shooting Of Jacob Blake

Aug 25, 2020 4:07 PM

The Detroit Lions canceled their practice on Tuesday to protest the shooting of Jacob Blake by police in Wisconsin.

The players addressed reporters as a team in front of their building to deliver a message that they will be part of the change in the United States against police brutality.

Three Lions players -- safety Duron Harmon, defensive end Trey Flowers and offensive tackle Taylor Decker -- addressed the media to explain their decision and share why, when they entered the building Tuesday, they felt football wasn't as important as speaking out against police brutality.

"As a team, we looked each other in the eyes and realized that football isn't important today," Harmon said. "We have a platform that we are able to use not just to raise awareness but to create change."

Matthew Stafford Glad His False Positive Led To Change

Aug 12, 2020 9:04 AM

Matthew Stafford said he's "glad" he was diagnosed with a false positive COVID-19 test because it might help others avoid a similar situation.

Stafford landed on the COVID-19 reserve list on Aug. 1, then was removed three days later with what was determined a false positive.

"I know everybody is doing the best that they possibly can. I'm glad it happened to me at this point, and the league is trying to change and make sure it doesn't happen again," the quarterback said. "But I'm sure there's going to be another problem down the road at some point that we're going to have to figure out when we get there. That's the way it's been for the last six months; we've all been living it. Whether we're a league trying to test thousands of players or just trying to go out and get our groceries.

"So we understand things are going to change and we're going to have to adapt, but I'm glad it got settled. Glad it's over with, and I'm just happy to be in the building hanging with the guys, getting a little bit of normalcy back when it comes to football."

The league altered its testing protocol less than a week after Stafford's false positive. If an asymptomatic person tests positive, the person can now take two additional tests in the next 24 hours and if both come back negative, the person can go back to normal activity.

Matthew Stafford Placed On Reserve/COVID-19 List

Aug 1, 2020 10:43 PM

Matthew Stafford became the eighth member of the Detroit Lions to be placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Players are put on the list either if they've tested positive for COVID-19 or have been in close contact with someone who has the coronavirus.

A message left with Stafford's agent seeking comment was not immediately returned to ESPN.

When Stafford's wife Kelly was pregnant with their fourth child in May (she has since given birth to a daughter), Stafford said they have been as cautious as possible.

"I think it's in everybody's best interest to be as safe as you can possibly be whether you've got a pregnant wife at home with kids or not," Stafford said in May. "Obviously, nobody really knows, there's not hard data on this yet, on what it does to a pregnant woman or a baby or whatever it is. We're just trying to make sure we're doing whatever we possibly can to limit our exposure.

"Make sure we are at home doing everything that the experts are telling us to do, as much as we possibly can, and we're trying to stay sane and still have a little bit of fun here and there."
