The Cleveland Browns have hired Jim Schwartz as defensive coordinator.

Schwartz, who spent the past two seasons as a defensive adviser in Tennessee, was one of four candidates to meet with the Browns. He previously worked with Browns general manager Andrew Berry in Cleveland.

The Cleveland Browns have fired defensive coordinator Joe Woods, according to a league source.

The Browns finished 7-10. Woods had been Cleveland's defensive coordinator under head coach Kevin Stefanski since 2020.

Before coming to Cleveland, Woods coached defensive backs for the San Francisco 49ers, including through their run to Super Bowl LIV. 

Former NFL running back Peyton Hillis is in intensive care after a swimming accident, according to a report.

KNWA in Arkansas reports that Hillis was taken to the hospital by helicopter after the accident, which took place in Pensacola, Florida. Hillis went into the water to save his children from drowning. His children are OK.

After playing his college football at Arkansas, Hillis was a seventh-round draft pick of the Denver Broncos in 2008. After two years in Denver, Hillis was traded to the Cleveland Browns.
