Baker Mayfield told Fox Sports on Thursday that he suffered a tuberosity fracture in his left shoulder, in addition to the torn labrum.

The Cleveland Browns quarterback added that the fracture in the non-throwing shoulder is "preventing his rotator cuff from firing."

"I need that fracture to heal for me to get back out there," Mayfield said. He added that he's still hoping he can return against the Pittsburgh Steelers on October 31.

Baker Mayfield, who has provided some stability for the Cleveland Browns at quarterback, will miss Thursday night's game against the Denver Broncos due to injury.

Case Keenum will step in as the starter.

Keenum will be Cleveland's 31st starting quarterback since the franchise began playing in 1999 -- more than any other NFL team.

Mayfield had started 51 start games for the Browns.

Baker Mayfield is still preparing to face the Denver Broncos on Thursday night despite aggravating the torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder.

The Cleveland Browns are hoping Mayfield can avoid season-ending surgery, according to a source.

"I work with my physiotherapist Dave [Matthews] and do everything I possibly can. After that, it's pain tolerance and wanting to be out there for my guys," Mayfield said of his left shoulder.

Mayfield suffered the shoulder injury -- initially reported as a partially torn labrum -- on Sept. 19 while attempting to make a tackle after an interception. He continued to play through it, wearing a harness on the shoulder for support.

Kareem Hunt is expected to miss "several weeks" with a calf injury.

The Cleveland Browns running back suffered the injury Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.

Cleveland was already without Nick Chubb in Week 6 because of a calf injury.

Kevin Stefanski said he's "not ruling out" Chubb from playing Thursday against the Denver Broncos.

Baker Mayfield wore a sling on his left non-throwing shoulder after Sunday's loss to the Arizona Cardinals, but he plans to play on Thursday night.

"Feels like s---," the Cleveland Browns quarterback said of his injured shoulder before answering, "Yes," when asked whether he believed he would still be able to play despite the short week.

He is scheduled to have an MRI on the shoulder Monday.

Mayfield, who has been playing with a harness on the shoulder, said this felt worse than when he injured the shoulder in Week. 2

Mayfield completed only 15 of 33 passes for 155 yards in Cleveland's 14-7 victory over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.
