The Cleveland Browns have exercised the fifth-year option on the contract of Baker Mayfield.

The move extends Mayfield's contract in Cleveland through 2022, when he'll make $18.86 million.

Mayfield was the first overall pick in 2018. He led the Browns to their first playoff victory in 26 years this past season.

The Cleveland Browns have released Sheldon Richardson.

Richardson was due to make more than $12 million this season. Richardson signed a three-year, $36 million deal with the Browns in 2019.

The Browns signed Jadeveon Clowney this week. 

Jadeveon Clowney has signed a one-year deal with the Cleveland Browns worth up to $10 million.

Clowney will play opposite Myles Garrett.

"We're excited to add Jadeveon to our defensive line," Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said in a statement. He's a disruptive force that will help us against the run and the pass. We've been able to make some nice additions to our defense throughout free agency and we are looking forward to getting to work, so we can improve our team."

Over the last three seasons, Clowney has ranked fifth in the NFL with a pass rush win rate of 25%, according to ESPN Stats & Info. During that span, Garrett ranks third, at 26%.

The Cleveland Browns met with Jadeveon Clowney on March 24, but the defender remains a free agent.

The Browns remain interested and are seeking a second meeting with Clowney.

Clowney, 28, played eight games in 2020 for the Tennessee Titans before going on injured reserve with a torn meniscus.

Cleveland pursued Clowney last year before he signed with Tennessee.
