Petrino, Hall Meet To Clear Air

May 18, 2014 7:58 AM

Atlanta Falcons' coach Bobby Petrino met Monday with cornerback DeAngelo Hall, trying to sort out their differences over the release of defensive tackle Grady Jackson. Both said they were ready to move on after getting together privately before practice. "Obviously, you don't like to see some of those comments made," Petrino said. "I understand part of it, I guess. I certainly had a meeting with DeAngelo, and we'll put it behind us and move on." Hall openly questioned the direction of the Falcons (1-6) after Jackson was released last week , despite being one of the team's most effective linemen.

Falcons' Hall Will Pay Full $100,000 Fine

May 30, 2014 9:37 PM

Atlanta Falcons cornerback DeAngelo Hall's latest outburst has cost him $50,000, according to team and union sources. Hall, the Falcons' two-time Pro Bowl cornerback, was fined $100,000 for a blowup on the sideline during a Sept. 23 game against the Carolina Panthers. When he received that fine, Hall was told by the Falcons that they would forgive $50,000 if he behaved himself, according to the sources. On Oct. 24, Hall was highly critical of the organization for its release of veteran nose tackle Grady Jackson. After those comments, the team decided the $50,000 would not be forgiven.

Hall Rips Falcons Over Release Of Jackson

Oct 31, 2014 3:00 PM

Pro Bowl cornerback DeAngelo Hall went off again on Atlanta Falcons coach Bobby Petrino, saying Wednesday the team appears to be giving up on the season with its release of Grady Jackson. Hall was already fined $100,000 and had to sit out the first half of a game for getting into a sideline confrontation with the rookie coach during Week 3. Even so, the cornerback didn't mince words when asked for his reaction to Jackson being cut the previous day. "I don't know what kind of message is being sent to let Grady go," Hall said. "I'm trying to go [all] out on every single snap. But a lot of guys feel like everyone from the top down is kind of turning it in."

Leftwich Out Indefinitely

Oct 9, 2014 6:04 PM

Falcons' quarterback Byron Leftwich could be back this season, but there is no certainty as to when. An MRI exam was administered to Leftwich's lower right leg Monday morning, but coach Bobby Petrino did not disclose the nature of the injury. Leftwich was hurt while making his first start for the Falcons in Sunday's 22-16 loss at New Orleans. I'm hoping Byron's on a timetable that he's back at some point," Petrino said, offering no time frame for his return. The Falcons (1-6) are off this week, giving Leftwich a week to heal without missing any playing time. Their next game is Nov. 4 against San Francisco at the Georgia Dome.

Leftwich Injuries Ankle In First Start For Atlanta

May 17, 2014 11:48 PM

Byron Leftwich, making his first start for the Atlanta since joining the club a month ago, went down with an injured right ankle on his first series of the third quarter in the Falcons' 22-16 loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. He gingerly walked off the field with help from trainers as Joey Harrington, who lost his starting job to Leftwich this past week, came into the game. Leftwich did not return. Leftwich was performing well before being taken down by Saints' defensive end Will Smith as he released a long incompletion. He completed 15 of 23 passes for 145 yards and a touchdown. He also led a pair of scoring drives that ended with Morten Andersen's two field goals, giving the Falcons a 13-7 halftime lead.

Recurring Knee Injury Could Sideline Falcons' Crumpler

Apr 15, 2014 9:54 PM

Alge Crumpler's chronically sore knee could sideline the four-time Pro Bowl tight end for the Atlanta Falcons' game at New Orleans on Sunday. Crumpler, the Falcons' leading receiver the last three years, has played in 40 straight games, including 39 starts, despite having arthroscopic surgery on his left knee the last two offseasons. He was held out of practice this week. If he can't play, Crumpler would be the third offensive starter, joining left tackle Wayne Gandy and right tackle Todd Weiner, sidelined because of knee injuries in the last two weeks.

Falcons Will Turn To Leftwich At QB

Feb 13, 2014 9:15 AM

In need of a catalyst on offense, the Falcons will turn to Byron Leftwich. There have been indications since the Falcons' loss to the Giants on Monday night that Atlanta coaches were strongly considering a change at quarterback, where Joey Harrington has started all six games for the 1-5 Falcons. That change, league and team sources said, will come this week, when the Falcons play at New Orleans. An official announcement is expected on Wednesday.
