Falcons Earn First Win Of The Season Over Schaub's Texans

Oct 12, 2014 2:25 PM

On this day at least, the Atlanta Falcons didn't need Michael Vick or Matt Schaub. Joey Harrington threw a pair of touchdown passes to Michael Jenkins and 47-year-old Morten Andersen kicked four field goals Sunday, leading the Falcons to their first win of the season, 26-16 over Schaub and the Houston Texans. "We've got a little flow going," Harrington said. "So much of this game is getting on a roll, getting in a groove. We feel like we're starting to dictate what the other team has to do."

Hall Fined $100K, Won't Start Against Texans

Oct 12, 2014 2:23 PM

Bobby Petrino, the Falcons' no-nonsense rookie head coach, said the penalty for cornerback DeAngelo Hall's tirade against Carolina game would be "substantial." Hall's three-penalty series and subsequent shouting episode with Petrino will cost him $100,000 and a start against Houston Sunday. "It was $100,000," Hall said. "I might sit a quarter. I might sit two quarters. He didn't tell me how long I am going to sit." Hall was not happy with the fine and plans to file a grievance with the NFL Players Association.

Vick Indicted On State Charges

Oct 12, 2014 2:09 PM

Suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick and three co-defendants were indicted again yesterday, this time on state charges stemming from their operation of a dogfighting ring at Vick's property in southeastern Virginia. A grand jury in Surry County, Va., indicted Vick on one count of beating or killing or causing dogs to fight other dogs and one count of engaging in or promoting dogfighting. He faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted, in addition to the 12 to 18 months he is expected to receive in December as a result of his guilty plea on similar charges in federal court. Grand jurors declined to indict Vick on eight additional counts. Those could have landed the star quarterback in prison for an additional 40 years.

Bank Sues Vick For More Than $2M

Oct 12, 2014 2:09 PM

NFL quarterback Michael Vick is being sued for more than $2 million dollars by the Royal Bank of Canada. In documents filed in U.S. District Court in Newport News Thursday, the bank says Vick borrowed $2.5 million to invest in real estate in January. Since then, the Newport News native has pleaded guilty to dogfighting charges, lost several endorsement deals, and been suspended from the National Football League ? and the bank says it is not sure he'll be able to repay its loan. When Vick was suspended from the NFL, he violated the terms of his loan contract, according to the bank.

Falcons To Discipline DeAngelo Hall

Jun 11, 2014 4:34 AM

Falcons coach Bobby Petrino hopes team actions will speak louder than DeAngelo Hall's words. Petrino said Monday that Hall would be disciplined for his emotional, momentum-changing tirade in Sunday's 27-20 home loss to Carolina. A suspension, fine or playing limitations have not been ruled out, Petrino said. For now, any sanctions will remain private. Petrino met with a handful of veteran players to help determine a course of action against the All-Pro cornerback as they prepare for former Falcons quarterback Matt Schaub and the Houston Texans at the Georgia Dome on Sunday. "If it's a suspension or a fine, especially if it's a suspension, I take it in full stride," a contrite Hall said Monday. "It don't feel good to be the reason your team loses a game. Whether you give up a touchdown pass or you get a stupid penalty, it all feels the same."

County Prosecutor Wants To Indict Vick

Oct 13, 2014 5:34 AM

The prosecutor in the rural county where Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick has admitted to bankrolling a dogfighting operation plans to present "a host of bills of indictment" regarding the case to a grand jury on Tuesday. "Yes, I'm presenting matters to the grand jury that involve dogfighting at 1915 Moonlight Road," Surry County Commonwealth's Attorney Gerald G. Poindexter told The Associated Press in a telephone interview Monday night. Moonlight Road is the address of the two story home on 15 acres that has been host to the operation known as "Bad Newz Kennels" since 2001, and where dogs have been trained, executed and fought. "Most of the matters that I'm presenting have already been admitted in sworn statements authored by the defendants in the federal proceedings," Poindexter said.

Leftwich Agrees To Terms With Falcons

Jun 8, 2014 6:47 AM

Quarterback Byron Leftwich, who was surprisingly cut on the eve of the NFL season by the Jacksonville Jaguars, has landed on his feet in Atlanta. Leftwich has agreed to a two-year deal that could be worth up to $7 million with the Falcons, sources have told FOXSports.com. Given the length and dollar amount of the contract, it's believed that Leftwich will be given the opportunity to compete with Joey Harrington for the starting job and is not being brought in merely to serve as Harrington's backup.

Falcons, Leftwich Meet In Atlanta

May 11, 2014 4:42 PM

The Falcons met with former Jacksonville quarterback Byron Leftwich in metro Atlanta Monday night to determine whether to sign the former starter, according to two members of the organization. Leftwich is scheduled to take a physical this morning. The development comes after winless Atlanta's offense struggled once again Sunday in losing its second game of the season, coincidentally against Leftwich's former team. Falcons officials declined comment. Coach Bobby Petrino expressed frustration Monday with the Falcons' managing just 10 points in two games and allowing 13 sacks ? some of which he blamed on starting quarterback Joey Harrington.

Sources: Falcons Meeting With Leftwich

Oct 29, 2014 6:59 AM

A disappointing loss in Jacksonville might be the flashpoint for the Falcons signing ex-Jaguars quarterback Byron Leftwich, sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen on Monday. The Falcons were meeting with Leftwich on Monday night to determine whether they want to sign the former Jaguars quarterback, the sources said. The Falcons were planning to sign another quarterback this week or next, but Joey Harrington's performance in Sunday's 13-7 loss to Jacksonville may have placed more urgency on bringing in an experienced quarterback.
